MENS’ BOWLS: Three more matches were decided this week in the Major/Minor Pairs Championship. On Wednesday, John and George Dumbrell made it to the second round defeating John Hunter and Greg Fanning 21-13, only to be eliminated by Ray Walter and Martin Betcher on Saturday, going down 26-12.

Also father and son duo Barry and Blake Bradtke defeated John Grogan and Paul Kay. After trailing 8-1 after five ends, the Bradtkes found form and dominated the match, winning by 30-13.
PRESIDENTS’ DAY: Men’s Club President Andrew Armstrong will host his first President’s day on Sunday, August 27. This should be a great day, with teams expected from right around the district. A list is on the board for Grenfell bowlers to nominate as singles and, from these, teams for the day will be selected. Put your name on the board and let’s make this a big day for Andrew.

Social Bowls: Despite bowls being washed out on Friday, bowlers made up for it on Wednesday and Sunday with a total of 36 on the greens. Wednesday’s chook winners were Nev Coleman, Nevin Hughes, Denis Fuller, Kerry Aston and Paul Kay, the free game going to Gary Pipe. John King, Lindsay Ballard and Denis Hughes won chooks on Sunday, again Gary Pipe won the free game.
Canowindra triples tournament: The Canowindra club is hosting a Turn Around Triples Mixed Mufti day on August 19. The day will comprise two games of 12 ends and under the terms of play, teams must comprise males and females and turn around team positions every four ends. Entry is $21 per team with prize money of $180 for the winning team and $60 for the runner up. Phone 6344 1605 for more information or to enter.
Jackpot: No winners again this week so the jackpot has jumped to $465. The combo required was +6 on end 15, on an odd-numbered rink.

WOMENS’ BOWLS: The first round of singles championships have been played with Katherine Betcher def Dale Scott 25-19, Sue Gault def Pat Reid 25-18, Rosemary Walter def Judy McCallister 25-16. The ladies travelled to Stockinbingal on August 6 for a Gala Day hosted by the men to raise money for Harden/Stock to travel to Terrigal after winning the District Pennants, enough money was raised. A fun day of bowls was had with a delicious morning tea and lunch. Thank you for your hospitality. Two teams will travel to Cootamundra to play for the Callaway Richards Trophy on August 10. Please note there will no social bowls on this day, but it will continue the following Thursday.
