Danny and Leigh comfortably won four of their sets in great fashion, 7/1, 7/1, 6/2, 7/1.
It was in their first set that the winning pair fought out a battle with the runners-up, Charles Harvey and his fill-in for Mark Liebich, Matthew Clarke, resulting in a win for Danny and Leigh 5/3, giving them a total of 32 games- well played men.
Charles and Matthew won a total of 28 games, another fine performance. They won their other four sets 7/1, 7/1, 6/2, 5/3.
Grant Fisher and Pat Hazell won 20 games for the round after mixed results. Their sets were 7/1, 3/5, 1/7, 6/2, 3/5.
Stuart McKellar and Arnold Brown battled away in their sets to capture a total of 18 games for the round.
Their scores were 5/3, 5/3, 5/3, 2/6, 1/7, while Grahame Edwards and John Walmsley won 12 games after a couple of close sets.
The other pair taking part, Hugh Moffitt and Rod Freudenstein had little luck and struggled in their sets.
To date the men have played each round without being interrupted by wet weather and now have only three more rounds to play in their Winter Tennis Competition.
Weather permitting, Round 10 will be played next Tuesday night, August 8.
INTER TOWN MATCH
The next Round of the Inter Town Tennis Competition will be played this Sunday, August 6 at the West Wyalong Tennis Courts.
The four teams, Grenfell, Forbes, West Wyalong and Temora will all play each other in a battle for the points.
Should be a great day’s tennis at West Wyalong on Sunday.
Hopefully, those players selected to represent Grenfell will make every possible effort to be available.
Good luck to the Grenfell team.
A big congratulations to Grenfell’s Hugh Moffitt who was presented with the prestigious Lions Citizen of the Year Award at the Lions Annual Changeover Dinner at the Country Club last Saturday night.
A very well deserving recipient.
