After repelling a number of Goannas raids, Cargo opened the scoring with a converted try to Tyrell Charters before Josh Liebich started a Goannas raid for Amenayasi Aditagane to score out wide.
With a successful conversion by Mitch Stevens, the scores were now locked at 6 all.
From this point Grenfell dominated the first half racing in three unanswered tries.
Josh Edwards was first to score from a beauty of a pass from Amenayasi Aditagane.
Phil Ingram produced the show and go to plant the ball down under the post, whilst the last try before the break came after halfback Ricky Whitton summed play up perfectly by running the ball the short side on the last tackle to send Mitch Stevens over in the corner.
Mitch Stevens’ three successful conversions saw the Goannas go to halftime with a healthy lead of 24-6.
The Blue Heelers did lift somewhat in the second half taking advantage of the Goannas poor handling and silly penalties.
This allowed Cargo to run in a couple of tries and reduce the gap to 24-16.
With eight minutes remaining Grenfell’s Brendan Hewen was sin binned giving the Heelers a sniff, but Grenfell held on scoring a late try to Sam Ingram to secure a comfortable 28 – 16 win.
In what was a good team effort by the entire Goannas outfit 3 points went to Sam Ingram, 2 points Mitch Stevens ans 1 point was awarded to Stephen Ingram.
Players Player was awarded to the little pest Josh Edwards. Well deserved Josh, you had an outstanding game.
In League Tag the Girlannas were up against the second placed Cargo.
At halftime the scoreline read 10 a piece before the Girlannas produced a brilliant second half to blow Cargo away with a comfortable 32-10 victory to maintain their undefeated record.
This week sees both the Goannas and Girlannas receiving the bye before returning to Lawson Park on Sunday July 30 , hosting the Burrangong Bears.
The Grenfell Goannas Rugby League Football Club would like to make mention of the Grenfell Girlannas representing the Woodbridge Cup League Tag side being Alicia White, Zoe Gavin, Breanna Anderson, Caitlin Dixon, Tarlia Cotter and Maddison Knight.
Congratulations to these girls who competed in Mossvale recently with great success defeating the Group 6 side with a 32-0 victory. A terrific achievement.
