BIG white frosts like we have been experiencing lately may mean a freezing start to the day, but they are often followed by a beautiful sunny and calm day.

Such has been the case on a couple of our social bowls days over the past week, resulting in about 50 bowlers taking advantage of the winter sunshine by enjoying an afternoon of bowls.
On Wednesday John Grogan won a chook and Greg Fanning a free game.
Friday’s chook winners were Clive Anderson, Andrew Armstrong, Ray Brown, Kerry Aston and Martin Betcher, while on Sunday Rob Coleman, Greg Fanning and Rob Chambers all took home chooks and Jimmy Sparkes won the free game.
Just a reminder that, during the winter months, social bowls will commence at 12.30pm so games will finish a little earlier, avoiding the cold coming in for the night.
State of Origin:
The Bowling Club is the place to be next Wednesday night for the big State of Origin decider.
Why not come along and help cheer the Blues on to victory.
The courtesy bus will run from 6pm to close and schooners of beer will be discounted to $4 from 7-10pm, even for Maroon supporters.
Nibblies and finger food will also be provided.
To book the courtesy bus, phone the club on 6343-1656.
Major/Minor Pairs:
THE Major/Minor Pairs is the next event on the championship calendar, so now is the time to think about organising your partner for this popular event.
Nomination sheets will be on the notice board in the next week or so.
$2000 prize money:
Forbes Shire Council is the sponsor of a 3-bowl mixed pairs tournament at the Forbes Bowling Club on the weekend of July 15/16.
Three games of 15 ends will be played on Saturday and two games of 15 ends on Sunday.
First prize money for the winning team is $1000, $500 for second and $200 for third, as well as $40 to round winners.
Entry fee is $100 per team, which includes lunch on both days. Entries close at the club on July 12 and no refunds will be made after that date.
Jackpot:
The required combo for the bowls jackpot this week was an unlikely +9 on end 20 on an even-numbered rink. Not surprisingly, there were no winners and the jackpot has climbed to a handy $243.
