Last Saturday, June 17, the Grenfell Under 12s travelled to West Wyalong to take on the undefeated Wyalong boys.
Unfortunately the score did not go our way, going down 28 points to 16, however the team had a terrific outcome outscoring them in the second half, 12 points to 10.
The team to take the field consisted of Benji Reid, Marc O’Loughlin, Harrison Keppie, Jonny Smith, Lachie Smith, Taylor Keppie, Alex Nowlan, Chase McFarlane, Tyler Stevens, Hayden Reid, Brodie Loader, Lee Ryan, Josh Clarke, Alex Moore and Ashton McLaughlin.
The whole side showed a huge improvement on the past few games, tackling strong and throwing the ball around to score some very classy tries, and were unlucky not be score a few more.
We went into this game without one of our key players Billy Reid who will be on representative duties all next week for the school Western Division side playing in the State Carnival in Nelsons Bay, and we wish him all the best.
Tries were scored by Benji who had a great game both in attack and defence, topping the tackle count for the game.
Not far behind was Marc O’Loughlin who scored a great individual try and pulled off some great tackles.
Lachie Smith scored a great backline try, running out round the defence then outsprinting them to the line. Harrison Keppie played a very classy halfbacks game, forming a great link between backs and forwards and was very dominant in defence.
Jonny, Taylor, Hayden and Chase played big games in the forwards making plenty of ground up the middle and were sound in defence.
Tyler, Lee and Brodie had sound games with Tyler’s excellent passes from dummy half and Brodie’s great kick returns and good positional play at fullback.
Alex Nowlan had a good game at first receiver in the second half and made some darting runs that almost had him breaking the first line of defence.
Alex Moore, Josh Clarke and Ashton continue to improve each week and all enjoy their time on the field.
Well done team, you should all be proud of your efforts.
