Grenfell Panthers report

Updated June 15 2017 - 1:21pm, first published 9:06am

On June 3 the Panthers hosted the West Wyalong Weevils in a game that definitely didn’t disappoint the home crowd. Grenfell dominated in attack and defence leaving the Weevils on the back foot in the first half. Young wingers Sam Hockey and Frazer Ryder showed they aren’t afraid of any physical challenge meeting the Weevil’s big men head on. After the Panthers leading 7-0 at half time the Weevils came out firing in the second bagging the first points and leveling the scoreboard. The battle was on, Grenfell dug deep with Stuart Hughes crossing the line taking the score to 12-7. With 10 minutes left the Weevils got a penalty right in front of the sticks to take the score to 12-10 and with both teams continuing to surge it was starting to get physical with some huge hits. A penalty was then awarded and converted by Harry Goodrum taking the final score to 15-10. This week’s points went to Steve Berry (3), John White (2), Mark/Stuart Hughes (1), zone points went to Frazer Ryder. This weekend Grenfell travel to Temora. The ‘Golden Oldies’ game played last Sunday provided some great entertainment with 28 old rugby heads taking the field. Matt Reid was presented with the ‘Show Pony’ award and later everyone enjoyed the celebrations well into the night.
