Grenfell Goannas Rugby League report

Updated June 1 2017 - 10:52am, first published May 31 2017 - 2:21pm

A rib tickler from Brendan Hewen on his opposite number from the kickoff set the tone for the Goannas’ 56-22 win over Peak Hill Roosters last Sunday. A fired up Roosters came out all guns blazing trying to upset the Goannas with their niggling tactics. Wear it and play footy was the message sent out early and to the Goannas credit that’s exactly what they did with Sam Ingram going over in the 15th minute for a 6-0 lead. Tries then followed from Stephen Ingram, Sam Ingram and Mitch Stevens. Successful conversions to Phil Ingram had the Goannas up 24-0. A lapse in concentration from the Goannas saw Peak Hill score from a grubber kick and the Goannas go to halftime leading 24-4. Peak Hill opened the scoring in the second half after catching Grenfell on the backfoot reducing the margin to 24-8. With the forwards now laying a platform to work off, tries came at will with doubles to Phil Ingram and Amenayasi Aditagane and 1 each to Dan Harveyson, Benny Abbott & Mitch Stevens. Conversions from Phil Ingram(4), Mitch Stevens(2) had Grenfell leading 56-18. In the dying seconds of the game Peak Hill crossed in the corner, final score Grenfell 56 Peak Hill 22. Players Player was shared between Brendan Hewen, Benny Abbott and Phil Ingram. This Sunday June 4 Grenfell make the trip to Trundle. At 12.40pm the Girlannas will look to continue their winning form against the Boomers. 2pm sees the Goannas take on one of the competition favorites the Trundle Boomers.
