Harvey and Freudenstein dominate tennis court: With the weather continuing to be kind, the Tuesday Men’s Comp went to battle this week, with Charles Harvey and Rod Freudenstein showing a clear pair of heals to win claim the evening. Charles and Rod, who was subbing for Jim Griffiths, played controlled tennis winning their sets 7/1,4/4,5/3,7/1 & 6/2 to accumulate 29 games. Only a couple of games behind, was the handy pairing of Murray Mitton and Grahame Edwards. The boys amassed 27 games, winning 6/2,4/4,7/1,4/4 & 6/2. Playing consistent tennis to finish third on the night was Hugh Moffitt and Rick Power, who collected 19 games. Mayor Mark Liebich and super sub Sally Mitton, who filled in this week for Andrew Bucknell. Mark and Sal plugged away to get a respectable 18 games, closely followed by Arnold Brown and Alan Jones, who was filling the void for Pat Hazell. Alan and Arnold battled away against some more fancied pairings, to add 17 games towards their overall tallies. Lewis Keough, who was filling in for Anthony Wilson, as normal gave 110% when he and John Walmsley finished the night on 10 games.

Bogalong and Beyond remain undefeated: The well rounded team of Bogalong and Beyond, remain on top of the ladder, undefeated after a narrow victory over The Lone Rangers in Round 9 of the Wednesday Night Mixed Comp. Close tennis resulted all night, with the scores locked together going into the last mixed. But their experience and ability prevailed, winning the encounter 34-30. Rob’s Rascals, despite requiring a couple of fill ins, played consistent tennis to win their encounter against The Eppo’s, to the tune of 37-27. The other match played on the evening was between Rollsies Rabble and Odds & Sods. Some close tennis was played, with the more experienced Rabble prevailing 35-29. Coppsies Floppsies had the bye.
Round 10 is set for next Wednesday with Rob’s Rascals having the night of to recharge the batteries.
Intertown Tennis: Grenfell will again field a side in the Intertown Tennis Competition. The dates for the competition have been set, with the first round set down late next month, Sunday May 28, 2017. Selectors will be publishing the selected team in coming weeks and contacting players.
