A car that crashed on the Hume Motorway at Pheasants Nest on Boxing Day – injuring all four men inside – was travelling about 150km/h when the accident happened, police say.

Investigators believe speed and fatigue contributed to the crash, which happened just south of the Picton Road overpass about 6.30am.
According to police, a Toyota Celica was travelling north on the motorway, when the driver lost control and veered across the road; hitting two trees before landing back on the road.
One of the rear passengers, a 19-year-old man, was ejected from the car.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition on Monday night.
It took emergency services about an hour to free the other rear-seat passenger, also a 19-year-old man, before he was was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
He is in a critical but stable condition.
The front passenger, a 21-year-old man, was taken to Liverpool Hospital with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition.

“The roof’s destroyed, the wheels have been ripped off; I’m surprised anybody’s managed to get out of that alive,” Inspector Michael Bright, from Camden police, told 7 News at the scene.
“The collision appears to be the result of speed. We believe the vehicle was probably travelling at 150km/h, that vehicle has then lost control and left the roadway.
“Fatigue also seems to be an issue; the driver has driven this morning [Monday] from Victoria.”
The Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
