On Friday evening, November 11, as part of Grenfell RSL Club’s Remembrance Day commemorations, a dinner was held at the Grenfell Bowling Club that included the announcement of the 2016 Cadet of the Year.

Corporal Jack Cooper from Grenfell Cadet unit was awarded with the prestigious ‘Swagger Stick’ and title of Cadet of the Year, he was presented with his award from Grenfell RSL President Maurice Simpson and Bowling Club representative Wayne Gavin.
Swagger Sticks are as used by the CSM and Officers and is a part of the officer's regalia when he is "walking out." Usually seen placed under the right arm pit, with the uplifted hand holding on to the stick's end. The Swagger Sticks came in different forms for a variety of battalions including Army and Marine. Today, the prestigious stick it is more of an award for acknowledging Army Cadets who have made outstanding achievements within their units.
The dinner was very well attended with RSL members and Cadets from neighbouring units joining in the special occasion.
