The girls warmed up well however they had a few nerves as they ran through the Grenfell Banner with their supporters lined up each side cheering them on the field.
West Wyalong kicked off to start the game, the girls were trying hard however found it hard in the first 5 mins to get out of their half. After about 10 mins West Wyalong scored with a successful conversion. Megan, Linda, Charli, Teleitha, Isabel and Emily made some good ground with their runs. With Holli, Lily and Phoebe tagging well to keep West Wyalong from running. The teams wingers Linda and Charli pulled over some good tags while Taylor took a few good catches in full back position running the ball back up the field. The half time score was Grenfell nil and West Wyalong 6.
After the halftime pep talk Emily and Teleitha took over the Dummy Half and First Receiver positions allowing Holli and Lily to combine their ball and running skills. Lily kicked off the second half and chased hard, both teams tagging well before Lily made a classy run through the gaps to score Grenfell’s first try, conversion successful, the score now Grenfell 6 – West Wyalong 6. West Wyalong responded quickly to score and with a successful conversion took the score to Grenfell 6 – West Wyalong 12. Lily received a penalty tap from 10 metres out when Holli ran onto the ball to put herself over the line. Holli’s conversion was successful with the score now locked at 12 all. Younger members Amelia, Jade, Alyssa and Marley kept up well and contributed to the team. Taylor received the ball and ran through to score in the corner and was successful in the conversion taking the score to Grenfell 18 – West Wyalong 12.
With the win in sight the crowd were getting right behind the girls. With a few minutes to go on the clock West Wyalong had the ball and were making ground, after the completion of six tags, Grenfell regained the ball with seconds to go before being named 2016 Jnr League Tag Premiers. Congratulations Girls it was well deserved.
During the presentation the girls received their trophies and Premiership Shield. Holli was named Jnr League Tag Runner-up Best & Fairest for Group X1 while Lily received Player of the Grand Final. Congratulations to both of you.
