Last Saturday the two Grenfell girl teams versed each other in an exciting close game.  As this was a competition game for points the girls were very keen to do their best for their sides.  

The black team consisted of Caitlin Stock (c), Mea O’Byrne, Tahnee Purdie, Holli Madgwick, Jamie Stephens, Charli O’Byrne, Linda Hucker, Phoebe Heathcote and Alyssa Heathcote.  

The gold team consisted of Chloe Madgwick (c), Lily Holmes, Taylor King, Chrystal Hucker, Megan Wilson, Caitlin Nealon, Teleitha O’Byrne, Emily Edwards, Taylor Hazell, Elizabeth Nowlan, Jade Douglas and Annie Nealon.  

The two teams had a very close game with each of them displaying a great defence line and attacking skills.   The Gold team came out the winners with the score  2-1.

For the black team Caitlin, Mea, Charli, Tahnee lead the way with some great runs.  Holli had one of her best defence games for the season and also was very positive with her running. Linda made some good runs with one standout run breaking through the defence to nearly score.  Phoebe made a great sideline run to score for her team after several close attempts on previous games.  Well done Phoebe.  Jamie displayed some good 1st receiver work and has grown in confidence.  Alyssa the youngest member of the team is playing well.

For the gold team Chloe, Lily, Chrystal, Emily and Elizabeth made it very hard for the black team to break their line of defence with each of them tagging well.  Teleitha is a good all round player who is eager to step up to play Dummy or 1st Receiver when needed.  Both Taylor Hazell and Taylor King along with Caitlin are improving each week and are getting more involved in the game.  Younger members Jade and Annie continue to pick up the game and are very keen to take the field.

Girlannas v Cabonne

SNR league tag girls played Cabonne at home. Team consist of Tarlia Cotter, Tuscany Johnson, Chloe Madgwick, Isabelle Holz, Veronica Garrity, Zoe Gavin, Casey Hewen, Meg Schaefer, Caitlin Dixon, Breanna Anderson and Taylor Hewen. The game started with Cabonne kicking off and Grenfell receiving the ball. Grenfell took control of the game in first 5 minutes and were looking good and playing well. Grenfell scored the first try with the girls passing it out to the winger Meg Schaefer to score a good try out wide. Kick unsuccessful. Grenfell 4-0. But it wasn’t long before Cabonne found their feet and started playing good football. Cabonne scored next near the post and the try was converted. Cabonne 6-4. Play started again with Grenfell taking the ball up, but with drop balls and missing tags creeping into the game. Cabonne noticed this and took full advantage of this and scored another try. Half time score Cabonne 10-4. Second half started with Cabonne receiving the ball. Cabonne were straight on the attack, but Grenfell’s defence was holding as they were playing better football. Play was changing hands with both teams defending well with Grenfell determined to get another win they were trying hard. It finally paid off with Isabelle Holz having a good run and was rewarded with a tr. Conversion unsuccessful. Cabonne 10-8. Plays continued with both teams trying hard. Grenfell were next to score with a good run was Tarlia cotter. Conversion unsuccessful. Grenfell 12-10. Cabonne hit back not long after with a try. Conversion unsuccessful. Cabonne 14-12. Play continued with only minutes remaining. Grenfell got a penalty on Carbonne’s line and quick thinking from Casey Hewen tapped the ball and scored the try just before the siren. Kick unsuccessful. Full time score Grenfell 16-14. Tarlia ran the ball and tagged well all game and was rewarded with a good try. Tuscany had a good game and made plenty of metres with her good running. Chloe always plays well and this game was no different with good runs and solid in defence. Isabelle had a good game in defence and attack, she is very dangerous when she runs the ball making plenty of ground and scored a good try. Veronica had a top game making plenty of ground with good runs and tagged well all game. Zoe was solid in defence and tagged all game, but unfortunately didn’t get much of the ball. Casey had her usual strong game in attack and defence and scored a good try. Meg always plays well she is a solid defender and runs the ball well. Meg also scored a good try out wide. Caitlin had a good game with good runs and tagged well. Taylor played well had some good runs and defended well.

Girls we need to remember this is a team sport and remember there are other girls on the field. 

Under 16’s v Forbes

The senior league tag travelled to Forbes to play Forbes. The team was Tarlia Cotter, Isabelle Holz , Veronica Garrity, Zoe Gavin, Casey Hewen, Meg Schaefer, Caitlin Dixon, Georgie Hargrave and Breanna Anderson.

With just enough players to field a side the girls were still keen and ready to play football.

Play started with Forbes kicking off and Grenfell receiving the ball.

Grenfell was straight into attack mode and were making good metres.

Forbes were finding it hard to contain the girls.

Forbes got the ball but were unable to break our line as the girls were defending well.

The ball changed hands and it wasn’t long before Grenfell were back on the attack again, with some good runs from the girls.

Grenfell were playing well and this finally paid off with a good try from Tarlia Cotter who broke the defence line and ran 40 metres to score under the post.

Tarlia converted the try Grenfell 6-0.

Forbes kicked off and play resumed, Forbes were determined to get the ball back as they were tagging well and not letting Grenfell run.

With bad passing and drop balls creeping into Grenfells game, Forbes noticed this and took full advantage.

Forbes were making plenty of ground With Grenfell finding it hard to tag them.

It looked like Grenfell’s defence walls would crack but a credit to the girls they held them out. Half time sounded Grenfell 6-0.

Grenfell kicked off for the second half and Forbes were keen to hit back. Forbes continued to pressure Grenfell and finally broke the defence line and scored a good try under the post. Conversion unsuccessful. Grenfell 6-4.

Play resumed with both sides playing good football . Play was going from end to end with both teams wanting to score next.

Grenfell was next to score with a good try from Casey Hewen out wide. The kick was unsuccessful - Grenfell 10-4.

With not long left on the clock Grenfell was looking like they might get the win but Forbes had other ideas and hit back with a good try under the post.

Conversion successful. Full time score 10 all draw.

Tarlia had a good game, tagged well and ran the ball well and was rewarded with a good try.

Isabelle tried hard all game tagging well and had a lot of good runs, making plenty of ground.

Veronica ran the ball well and had another good game.

Zoe had some good runs and made plenty of ground, also tagged well. Casey tried hard with good tagging and defence. Meg had another good game in attack and defence and making try saving tags.

Caitlin was tagging well all game and made good ground when running the ball. Georgie had a strong game, made plenty of good tags and ran the ball well.

Breanna is playing great football, running straight and hard, tagged well all game.
