Cricketers take to the stumps

Junior cricketers from around the region have played their first match for the Lachlan squads in the Western Zone Competition on Sunday, 19 October.

With squads in the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s, players were selected from a range of towns including Forbes, Parkes, Grenfell, Condobolin and West Wyalong. The Under 16s were competing in the Greg Griffith Shield.

While the scores were close, all three squads went down over the weekend, despite some top action on the pitch by Lachlan players.

The Lachlan Under 12s went down to Dubbo Blue by 57 runs.

Among the highlights for the Lachlan squad were:

Batting: Travis Brooks - 49 not out; Maddox Stewart - 39 and Sid Baker - 13.

Bowling: Travis Brooks - 2/18 from 5; Leonard Stitt - 2/16 from 3; Archie Maslin and Beau Hartwig - 1 wicket each

The Lachlan Under 14s went down to Dubbo by 123 runs

Among some of the highlights on the pitch were:

Batting: Alfie Rosser - 50; Ned Glasson - 26; and Quade Peterson - 19

Bowling: Timmy Longhurst - 3 wickets; Quade Peterson, Leo Dwyer, Sam Yelland and Logan Crammond - 1 wicket each

The Under 16s squad were defeated by Orange 58 runs.

On the cricket pitch there were a few highlights, including:

Batting: Callan Venables - 39; Eamon Moody - 37; and Ellijah Turner - 14

Bowling: Zachery, Billy, Mac, Jacob and Eli got one wicket each.
