Grenfell will host the Canowindra Tigers in all three grades this Sunday at Lawson Oval after there was a General Bye in the competition last weekend for the King’s Birthday holiday.
The day will kick off with Youth League at 11.20am followed by League Tag at 12.40pm and First Grade will round off proceedings with a 2pm start.
In the Youth League match Grenfell come up against a Canowindra team who have had just the one win and a draw this season, but they have had a very tough draw.
The young Goannas have been keen and have tried hard this year under coach Jamie O’Loughlin, but they have struggled with player numbers and consequently they have suffered a couple of big losses.
A bright spot for the Grenfell boys was an exciting come from behind win against Eugowra earlier in the season.
The Grenfell League Tag girls have been solid this year and they currently sit just outside the top eight.
Their opponents this Sunday are premiership threats, but they are not as dominant as last season, and this has been partly due to the emergence of Eugowra and Cargo who are both in the top four after missing the finals last year.
The Goannas First Grade team have been down on troops lately and this was not helped when their starting Front-Rower and Hooker received suspensions after being sent off for swearing in their last game against Molong.
Canowindra are currently sixth on the First-Grade ladder with four wins and three losses and this is lower than where they have sat at this time of the year in previous seasons, but they are still in the premiership mix and will be there for the big end of season matches.
Due to some away games and the withdrawals from the competition of Blayney and CSU Bathurst after this weekend the Grenfell First Grade team will only have one more home game this season and this will be against Trundle on Saturday, 2 August.
