Girlannas have big win

This Sunday the Goannas are off to Molong to take on the Bulls in all 3 grades. The day kicks off with the Youth League match at 11.20am followed by League Tag at 12.40pm and then First Grade commences at 2.00pm.

Last Sunday at Lawson Oval in front of a good crowd the Goannas hosted the Condobolin Rams in League Tag and First Grade. Following are the match reports:

LEAGUE TAG

The Girlannas moved the ball skillfully across the park on Sunday and came up with 11 tries in their big 56-6 win over the Condobolin Rams.

The Grenfell girls went to the break leading 24-6 after Condo scored a converted try in the dying seconds of the half, but it was the locals who went on with the job in the second half.

It was a tough task for the selectors of the best and fairest points on the day as there were plenty of players who shone. However they came up with the following players as being the standouts, Faith Smith (3 tries), Zoe Gavin (2 tries), Ella McRae (try), Emily Brenner (try & 6 goals) and Sophie Hughes (try & Player’s Player).

The remaining three tries were scored by Heather Walker, Breanna Anderson and Chelsea Harveyson. For the second time this season Craig Mooney picked up the $390 first try-scorer prize.

FIRST GRADE

Grenfell led 10 nil early in this match and they played some good footy in the first half and went to oranges leading 16-12.

The locals were sniffing their first victory of the season but the Condo boys had other ideas and they dominated the second half running in 6 tries to 1.

Many of these tries came out wide from backline movements and it appeared that the Goannas ran out of petrol and when the final hooter blew they were on the wrong side of a 42-22 scoreline.

Best for Grenfell were Michael Smith, Trent Veney (Player’s Player), Charlie Frendo, Simon Samson, and Caleb Haddin. Grenfell’s points came from 2 tries to Trent Veney and singles to Michael Smith and Nou Rarua whilst Chase McFarlane knocked over 3 conversions. Mark & Sarah Loader were the first try-scorer winners and they collected $820.
