A jam packed day of entertaining footy

The Grenfell Goannas Junior Rugby League Club have released their newsletter highlighting the achievements of players across round five.

Young guns on the prowl in Bathurst

A group of 22 GJRL boys and girls registered this year for the Play like a Panther Clinic held in Bathurst last Thursday, ahead of the NRL clash between Penrith Panthers and Newcastle Knights.

The clinic was jam packed with young rugby league players from across the region, who were put through their paces with multiple skills and drills.

Once training finished the kids all cheered as the big Panthers bus rolled in and they got to meet the Panthers 2025 Squad.

Red Bend Rumble, round five: Another home game done and dusted

Red Bend showed up in full force on Saturday for another jam packed day full of entertaining footy.

The day started as it usually does with the under 6's delivering a spectacular performance and a belly full of laughs. These little players improve in strides week to week, and isn’t it just a joy watching them learn the rules of the game (and make up some rules of their own). They are equal parts determination and comedy gold.

Our 8's 10's, 11s tag, 12's and 14's tag followed up with some tough defense, awesome playmaking and as always, next level sportsmanship. The energy of these kids week to week is undeniable.

Try of the week: in a nail biting moment after the siren had sounded, the under 12's played hot potato, finishing with a chip over over the top.

The ball ricocheted off of Red Bend into the hands of Hayden Rolls who gloriously barged over the line to score in the corner!

Big thanks to Red Bend for being excellent visitors, and to every parent, player and volunteer who had the day running like a well oiled machine!

This Saturday, 31 May, Grenfell are heading to Manildra for round 6 of the competition.

Welcome to newest referee

Baxter Donnelly is the newest and youngest referee on the Roster! Baxter travelled to Forbes last Wednesday with Josh and Mia Bateman where they all completed their 6-12's referee accreditations.

With sharp focus and that pure Goanna determination, Baxter will work alongside experienced mentors, developing the skills and confidence to manage matches with the utmost clarity and fairness. Grenfell Junior Rugby League also welcomes Orlando Joyce and Faith Smith back to the fields again this season along with the same great attitude and confidence that we know and love.

A friendly reminder to all spectators: If the socks are green, they’re under 18. These socks will be worn to signify their age and status, please speak with care as we get behind them in reaching their full potential.
