Weddin Whispers: A blooming good time

GRENFELL DRAMATIC SOCIETY: Many former members of the Dramatic Society attended last week ends performances of the musical MOTHERHOOD.

Special guests at the Sunday afternoon matinee performance were society patrons Roma Sinclair, Judy Mitton and Margaret Thorncraft. Roma's association with the society spans 66 years as she was a foundation member of the group in 1957. Both Judy and Margaret have been members for over 40 years.

Sue Simpson pianist and musical director for many of the society's previous musicals was also seen enjoying the music and the laughs of the show.

Don't forget there are three more performances this weekend, Friday 7:30pm, Saturday 7:30pm

and Sunday 2:00pm. Get your tickets from Raine & Horne.

GRENFELL GARDEN CLUB: The October 3 meeting of the Garden Club was held at Pene Starr's home. The meeting was well attended with new members joining and details finalised for open gardens. A lovely tour of the garden followed, thank you Pene.

Open Gardens was a wonderful success. The weather was beautiful over the whole weekend.

The event was well attended with many visitors from out of town and locals who enjoyed the refreshments on offer provided by the Red Cross and Garden Club members.

The Garden Club would like to thank the Red Cross, garden club members, the residents who opened their gardens and the visitors who helped make the event a success.

Thank you to Bunnings Young and The Natural Home for the raffle prizes, won by J. McCann and S. Johnson.

Our Tuesday November 7 meeting will be held at the Country club on Melbourne Cup Day at 1pm, see you all there. It should be fascinating!! Kathleen McCue -Publicity Officer.

IRIS GARDEN: The Grenfell Iris Garden is an absolute picture. The beautifully arranged s garden is just breathe taking. Call in and have a wander while the flowers are at their peak. The garden is situated in O'Brien Street below the lookout. Special thanks to Anne Gault who maintains this outstanding attraction in Grenfell.

LEISURE GROUP: Registrations and commencement of Term 4 (8 weeks) starts today at 9.45am at the Uniting Church Hall and each Thursday from 10am - 12noon. Courses available include Art - (No teacher this term) some supplies available.

Guitar Lessons, Needlework and Wool - Tapestry, Embroidery, Knitting and more, Papercrafts - Make your own Christmas Cards, Colouring, Basic Sewing Machine Skills, Board games and cards. Everyone is welcome. Cost: $3 per week includes morning tea. Further information contact Norma Walker 6343 1809.

REMEMBRANCE DAY: Grenfell's Commemorative Service will be held on Saturday November 11 commencing at 10.45am at the Memorial Park.

The Service will include; cadet catafalque party, Last Post and Ode, commemorative song, sung live by Belinda Day, wreath laying ceremony (public invited to lay a wreath), readings by Grenfell Schools and National Anthem sung live by Carly Brown.

The service will be followed by a Cadet of the Year Luncheon at 12.30pm at the Bowling Club and is open to all members of the public. A three course meals is $40 per person (Veterans and their guest $20 per person) Please RSVP Friday November 03 via grenfellsb@rslnsw.org.au

RESILIENCE ASSESSMENT: The Weddin Shire Resilience Assessment Survey is part of the CSRIO resilience research. Its aim is to assess the strengths and challenges of the Weddin community in dealing with adverse and disaster events and to inform plans and programs that enhance the strengths and address the challenges for a prosperous resilient region.

Your participation will help to provide the evidence base that can inform community reliance building priorities and proposal for future government funding.
