New faces and new chapter at library

The Grenfell Public Library has welcomed a new chapter with the appointment of librarian Stephen Terrill, who has settled into the role.

Stephen joined the team as Weddin Shire Council's librarian from the middle of June after moving from Sydney.

He replaces former long term librarian Erica Kearns who took up a role at Yass last year.

Stephen has had over 13 years of library experience, particularly some of the bigger public libraries in Sydney including Rockdale Library in Bayside Council.

Joining Stephen at Weddin Public Library are part time library assistants Kelly Bembrick and Sandra Frame marking a change from previous arrangements, with there only being a single casual library assistant position before.

"This is like a brand new team at the helm," Stephen said.

Stephen said he likes the country life and enjoys the easy-going nature of the community.

Since taking on the role Stephen has introduced some changes, including changing the layout of the shelving to help customers choose their books more efficiently.

Beginning on September 5, the library will introduce a free early literacy program aimed at children between 0 and 24 months which will run every Tuesday from 10:30am, except on school holidays.

The program, Baby Bounce, will be held over 30 minutes and will feature action songs, nursery rhymes, music, play, books and reading.

Members of the family are encouraged to come along and join in the fun.

Stephen also has plans to start more programs for members of the community.

Along with the changes to the staff and new additions of programs, the Grenfell Public Library have extended their trading hours, now open on Monday as well.

The Library is open on Monday to Friday from 10:30am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 4:50pm.

The Library is also open on Saturday from 9:30am to 12pm.
