The reign of last year’s Major/Minor Pairs champions, Graeme and James Hunter, came to an end on Sunday, when the strong father and son combination was defeated by an in-form Keith Brus and Gary Pipe.
After getting away to a good start Keith and Gary led all the way throughout the match and won comfortably by a convincing 20-13.
Keith and Gary will now face Steve Galvin and Denis Hughes in the semi-finals. In the first of the Mixed Pairs Championship matches, played on Wednesday, Quentin and Joy Murray defeated Rosemary and Ray Walter.
The Walters bounced out of the starting gate in great form, winning five of the first seven ends, establishing a handy lead of 8-3.
However, the Murrays scored six shots on the next end to take over the lead by 9 shots to 8, and went on to win nine of the remaining 12 ends to take out the match 26-13.
Once again, teams in all championship competitions are urged to arrange their matches by mutual agreement, as soon as possible.
The Bowls committee would like to see all matches completed by the end of the year.

To claim this week’s jackpot of $304 you needed a most unlikely score of +9 on end 20, on an even rink. Not surprisingly, there were no winners, and the jackpot next week will be worth $356.
