Spring is the perfect time to discover native grasses, plants and wild-flowers that may be dormant for much of the year.
Spend the morning exploring and join Central West Local Land Services staff and Mikla Lewis as they explore this beautiful native bushland.
The Vaughn’s Dam Travelling Stock Route (TSR) is a spectacular sight in spring.
The reserve covers an area of 11.7 hectares and features a number of environmental features and assets.
The site is Box Gum Grassy Woodland - an Endangered Ecological Community (EEC).
Box Gum Grassy Woodland is the name given to the endangered ecological community White Box, Yellow Box, Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland and is characterised by a diverse mix of species dominated by White Box, Yellow Box and/or Blakely's Red Gum trees.
Box Gum Grassy Woodland is listed as an endangered ecological community under the Australian Government’s Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and White Box - Yellow Box - Blakely's Red Gum Woodlands are listed as an endangered ecological community under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act.
Box Gum Grassy Woodlands have been drastically reduced in area and highly fragmented clearance due to disturbances such as cropping, pasture improvement, heavy-grazing by domestic stock urban development and transport infrastructure leaving them severely depleted and fragmented.
Some remnants of these communities survive with many of the trees partly of wholly removed by post-European settlement activities.
Weddin Landcare and Grenfell Urban Landcare are working in partnership with Central West Local Land Services to develop a restoration and management plan that will increase and improve the biodiversity of the site.
The walk will take place at Vaughn’s Dam TSR on Tuesday October 31, 2017 from 9.30am - 12pm and the cost is FREE.
