Committee members are delighted to announce that they have adopted the new junior formats as part of Cowra Junior Cricket Associations Summer of Cricket.
Cowra has joined the tsunami of junior cricket associations across Australia adopting the new junior formats for the 2017-18 Summer of Cricket.
The formats have been researched and field tested in 15 associations around Australia during last season with qualitative data and community feedback from coaches, administrators, players and parents driving modifications.
Speaking about the benefits of introducing the formats, Neil McDonald a member of the Cricket Australia project team said, “Aligning Junior formats across the country is vital for Australian Cricket to be able to support and resource associations.
“Children in Stage 1 and Stage 2 levels play games on a shorter pitch to suit the players’ size and physical capabilities, with shorter boundaries and fewer fielders to increase on-field activity.
“Everyone has the opportunity to bat and bowl and games are finished in two hours. The result is that children learn the skills faster and develop greater confidence and passion for the game”.
1,429,529 participants took part in Cricket last year. The 9.03% growth sees another record breaking participating year for the sport, as Australians continue to make Cricket their favourite sport.
Total female participation in the sport increased to 393,735, making up 27.5% of all participants, a 25% increase from the previous year.
Junior Cricket continues to thrive across the country, with 135,223 kids aged between 5 and 12 participating in MILO in2CRICKET, MILO T20 Blast and junior club cricket. NSW topped participation in the nation with 27% of participants from the State and Territory, followed closely by Victoria which recorded 26% of all participants.
Matthew Tabbernor, Cricket NSW Central West Development Manager has been at the forefront of engaging local associations to inform them of the formats, work through the options to adopt and finally support their smooth introduction.
To date, associations including Orange, Bathurst and Mudgee have commenced their club competitions with strong positive feedback received.
“I think it’s great that Cowra have adopted MILO in2CRICKET (5-8 year old boys and girls) as well as Stages 1 and 2 and I’m sure the players will have a great time playing the action-packed formats” Tabbernor said.
“There’s still time to register to play this season in Cowra but you need to be quick, go to www.playcricket.com.au for details on joining your local club” he added.
