Major/Minor Pairs
The combination of Gary Pipe and Keith Brus advanced to the next round of the championship on Sunday after defeating Nevin Hughes and Warren Paine.
Warren and Nevin got away well and led 5-3 before dropping a five and a three on consecutive ends, which left them trailing 11-5. They never seemed to get back in the game after that and Gary and Keith emerged as easy winners 25-13.
Meanwhile, Major/Minor teams are asked to complete their next round matches as soon as possible.
Social Bowls
Fine weather attracted a total of 54 social bowlers onto the greens during the past week, with some close matches and a lot of fun.
On Wednesday, John Dumbrell and Rob Chambers won chooks, Quentin Murray and Rob Coleman Market Night vouchers and Nev Coleman and Martin Betcher free games.
On Friday, chook winners were Nev Coleman and Col Meyers, while Andrew Armstrong and John Grogan won Market Night vouchers and Max Barr and Rob Coleman free games.
Then on Sunday, Blake Bradtke and Andrew Armstrong took home chooks while voucher winners were Scott Baker and John Hunter. Free games went to Dave Hancock and John Joyce.
Mixed Pairs and Mixed Fours Championships, 2017

Harrison’s ‘Brevities’
Some more advice, tips and home-spun philosophy on lawn bowls by champion of last century, the late RT (Dick) Harrison:
“Insure against risk with a bowl at the back. Flukes are the sparks that fly from the anvils of uncertainty. Be insured – the premium is low.”
“A bowl will act only in accordance with what you do to it. Dump it, and it becomes a dull leaden thing. Spin it, and life springs into action. Wobble it, and anything can happen.”
“Congratulating an opponent immediately following defeat and the natural disappointment it often entails, is a courtesy indispensable to the game.”
Jackpot
To win the jackpot this week you needed a score of -8 on end 20 on an even rink.
Once again there were no winners and next week’s jackpot will be $213.
