Sisters Ange Logan from Melbourne and Kim Andersen and Lissa Caldwell from Brisbane enjoyed a nostalgic visit to Grenfell during the week, catching up with family and researching family history.

Derek Shore also from Brisbane accompanied the girls on their trip.

The sibling’s parents were Benny and Carol Ann Andersen nee Markham and their grandparents were Harold and Doreen Merle Markham nee Miles.

The Andersen family grew up in Katoomba, but spent many school holidays in Grenfell with their grandparents and aunties and uncles.

Whilst in Grenfell the caught up with their aunties Bev Lappan and Pam Pearce and their families.

The group travelled to Bimbi and Darbys Falls cemeteries checking out history on deceased family members.

The visitors stayed in the cabins at the Grenfell Caravan Park and enjoyed a barbecue with some of their relatives on Monday evening.

They still had some relatives to catch up with after I had seen them.

They were very impressed with the new almost completed town pool and looked forward to returning when it is finished.

DAYLIGHT SAVING: 

Love it or hate, Daylight Saving commences this weekend and everyone is reminded to put their clocks forward one hour on Saturday evening September 30 or Sunday morning October 01.

PUBLIC SCHOOL

SESQUICENTENARY:

The sesquicentenary of the Grenfell Public School will be held on Friday October 13 and Saturday October 14.

Thank you to everyone who has supplied memorabilia and photos for this historic occasion.

The school is still seeking old uniforms for display. If you have an old uniform they would love to hear from you.

The uniforms will be returned after the weekend.

WEDDIN MOUNTAIN

MUSTER:

Congratulations to all involved in the 2017 Weddin Mountain Muster.

What a sight to behold, as the riders took to the streets of Grenfell on Wednesday morning.

After leaving the showground they traversed the town and rode to the O’Brien’s Hill Lookout for morning tea.

President of the Muster Don Robinson introduced Michelle Rohan from the local Can Assist Branch, who presented prizes for the best dressed adult and junior riders.

Lisa Shilling of Wollongong, on King Arthur was named best dressed adult whilst Tiarnie Hile from Thirlmere riding Riley (The Zebra horse) was awarded the junior prize.

Money collected on the day was presented to Can-Assist.

Following morning tea, the riders proceeded to local MPS before a parade down the Main Street.

MEN’S BREAST

CANCER RIDE:

Tomorrow Saturday September 30, Former Grenfell resident Wayne Heathcote (the famous Guinea Pig Racing Family) and around 14 push bike riders will arrive in Grenfell after a seven day trek from Templestowe Melbourne to raise awareness of Menes’ Breast Cancer.

The groups will arrive around 11.30-11.45 and will ride up the Main Street and onto the cemetery for a memorial service.

Most people aren’t aware that breast cancer can affect both women and men.

This truth became known to Wayne’s when his dear friend, Andrew Lynch a former local, who still has family in Grenfell, told him he had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Andrew fought bravely before losing his short battle and passing away in November 2010. This loss was heartbreaking to Andrew’s family and friends.

The riders will be seeking donation along the way and when they do a pub crawl/walk down the Main St in Grenfell.

Please be generous when you see these folks in Lycra walking the Main.

MARKET DAY:

The markets will be held tomorrow morning from 9am -12 noon in Grenfell’s Lower Main Street.

Enjoy a free sausage sizzle in front of the Record Office and the children will be entertained with  the Lions Jumping Castle in Rygate Square.
