TAYLOR AND FREUDENSTEIN – Close win at men’s tennis
The first round of the Men’s 2017 Spring Night Tennis Competition was played on Tuesday in conditions much warmer than rounds of the Winter Competition.
Leigh Taylor and Rod Freudenstein won the round narrowly from four other pairs, winning a total of 25 games.
Leigh and Rod lost just one set 3/5, winning their other four sets 8/0, 5/3, 5/3, and levelled the last set 4/4.
Great tennis for the men and well played Leigh and Rod.
Just one game behind the top pair were Graham Watt and Mark Liebich, winning 24 games.
Graham was a fill-in for Stuart McKellar.
Graham and Mark won their first two sets 5/3, 5/3 then lost against Leigh and Rod 3/5 then went on to win their last two sets 5/3, 6/2, another fine effort.
Next best pair was Charles Harvey and Pat Hazell who won a total of 22 games for the round.
They lost their first set 3/5 against Graham Watt and Mark Liebich then went back on the court to win 5/3, 5/3, 5/3.
They tied the last set 4/4.
Two pairs finished the night winning a total of 21 games.
They were Danny Joyce and his partner for the round, Arnold Brown and Andrew Bucknell and his fill-in for Hugh Moffitt, Rob Taylor.
Danny and Arnold’s sets were 7/1, 3/5, 5/3, 3/5, 3/5, while Andrew and Rob’s sets were 5/3, 3/5, 3/5, 3/5, 7/1.
The other pair taking part in the Spring Competition, Grahame Edwards and John Walmsley had little luck in their sets.
The commencement of the Men’s Spring Tennis was no doubt a great result for the men with the scores so close for five pairs at the final tally of games won.
The men should have another very enjoyable competition.
Round 2 will be played next Tuesday night, September 19, weather permitting.
