On Saturday September 30 Bribbaree will celebrate its 91st Annual Show. Wendy Tuckerman, the 2016 Hilltops Administrator, will officially unveiling the new all-purpose Pavilion at 11.00am. The new pavilion, constructed from monies awarded under the Hilltops Council 2016 Stronger Communities Funding - Community Grants Program, replaces the original luncheon pavilion come produce pavilion. The Show official opening is at 2.00pm by Emma Gorman, the 2017 “The Land” Royal Showgirl runner-up from Wagga Wagga.
Attractions other than side show alley for the younger ones include the boys and girls running races, Kentucky Animal Farm and a lolly scramble, while the “older children” can join in the Tug-O-War and Farmers Challenge. The junior pavilion attracts a growing number of exhibits and is once again sponsored by Quayle Milling. There will be “little” People of the Show, Miss Teen, Junior Show Person and Lady and Gentleman of the Show. The poultry pavilion is sponsored by T&D’s Produce while the sheep exhibits are competing for prizes donated by SW Slopes Sheep Breeders Inc. and Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon & Co. With sponsorship from organisations such as Young Services Club and Town Hall Newsagency the Show Society can continue to offer very generous prize money in the main pavilion classes for cooking, horticulture, handicraft and jams and preserves. The produce pavilion classes include exhibits of wool, farm and garden produce.
The yard dog trials have new permanent sheep holding pens constructed in 2016 by Scott Epplestun, from funds donated by the Bribbaree Fishing Club. There will be team yarding and an expanded show jumping program to include a Junior and Open 6-Bar competition sponsored by Carruthers Machinery with a total prize pool of $1,000. The horse ring events now tie-in with a “local show circuit” of similar events where competitors can also attend at Young on October 1 and Morongla October 2.
Additional attractions and displays will include vintage machinery, modified tractors, motor bikes, trucks, boats, caravans and farm machinery. Breakfast will be available from 8.30am at the Bribbaree P&C canteen. An all-day barbecue next to the publican’s booth will be operating from 10.00am. There will be coffee and ice cream vendors at the showground on the day.
The Show Society will also be staging a Show and Shine involving cars, trucks, bikes, boats and lawn mower races on March 10, 2018. Horse events on the day include a gymkhana involving an obstacle course, whip crack, ladies steer ride and boot and drum races.
