Despite being marred by showers and freezing conditions, Andrew Armstrong’s first President’s Day was a huge success with 54 bowlers filling the greens.
As well as Grenfell, bowlers came from Cowra, Caragabal, Quandialla, Eugowra and Gooloogong. Play for the day was an interesting format of two matches of two sets of seven ends, which proved very popular with bowlers. Taking out the major prize for the day by winning all four sets was a team from Eugowra, with the Woodstock team runners-up. Andrew presented Rob Coleman with a tie pin and Kerry Aston with a merit badge, in recognition of their service to the club during the year. The Lachlan Valley Bowling Association was represented by President Roger Traves, who congratulated Andrew on organising a very successful and enjoyable day.
Zone Four Championships: The 2017 Zone Four Pairs Championship finals will be held at Forbes this weekend with Grenfell bowlers well-represented. Blake Bradtke and Andrew Armstrong will contest the Open Pairs, while Rob Coleman and Rob Chambers will play in the President’s Pairs. Best of luck gentlemen!
Major/Minors Pairs: Matches in the club’s Major/Minor Pairs continue with Tim Fowler and Kerry Aston defeating Dylan Troy and J Liebeck 25-13 at the weekend. Steve Galvin and Denis Hughes advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Rob Coleman and David Hancock 30-7.
Social Bowls: It’s was great to see 24 players turn out for social bowls on Wednesday, boosted by some visitors from Young, who were made very welcome. Chook winners were Gary Pipe and Denis Hughes, market night raffle vouchers to Barry Bradtke and Keith Brus, while Young bowlers Ron Bennett and Col Chambers won free games for next time they visit. There were 14 social bowlers on Friday with chooks going to Barry Jones and John Dumbrell, market night vouchers to Lindsay Ballard and John Grogan, and free games to David Frost and Kerry Aston
Jackpot: The required combo this week was a score of +3 on end 7 on an odd-numbered rink. With no winners the jackpot now stands at $65.
