At Coonabarabran on Saturday, the trio defeated a Molong team 24-18 to qualify for the final. In Sunday’s final they faced a Coonabarabran team, who had the advantage of playing on their home green.
Down 5-0 after two ends, Blake, Andrew and Steve settled down to the job in hand and went on to cruise to a convincing 35-12 win. Well done boys! They will now compete in the State finals at Ettalong on the Central Coast in October, where their first match will be against a strong city-based Zone 12 team.
Presidents Day: If you want to get a game on President’s Day on Sunday, you better be quick, as there’s only room for one more team of three bowlers. Commencing at 10am, the day will consist of two games with two sets of seven ends. Entry fee is $60 per team, which includes lunch, and dress for the day is creams or club colours.
Social Bowls: There were not a lot of bowlers on the greens this week, due to the unpleasant weather and cold winds. Just six hardy souls turned out on Wednesday, when Greg Fanning won a chook, Rob Coleman a free game and Rob Chambers a market night meat raffle voucher.
There were no bowls on Friday but Sunday’s beautiful weather attracted 12 bowlers – a good number considering that nine regular social players were away at Caragabal’s triples tournament. Roger Baker and John Hunter were the chook winners, while Nevin Hughes and Jimmy Sparkes won free games and Barry Harris and Martin Betcher the market night vouchers.
Caragabal Triples tournament: Grenfell was well-represented at Caragabal’s annual triples tournament, with three teams travelling out for a great day of bowls, played in glorious sunshine that followed a huge frost. Caragabal are always great hosts with the small community, led by club president Mitch Pollock, banding together to make the day a huge success.
A Grenfell team, comprising Rob Chambers, Lindsay Ballard and Barry Butler, were successful in winning the tournament, with a Gooloogong team runners-up.
Jackpot: In this week’s jackpot draw, two triples teams came up with the required combo of +2 shots on the tenth end on an even rink.
Barry Harris, George Dumbrell, John Joyce, John Dumbrell, Nevin Hughes and Roger Baker will each receive $85. Next week the jackpot will be $26.
