The Weddin Mountain Muster Committee has been up bright and early and clocking up some miles over the last couple of months in preparation for this year’s event in the September school holidays. Conducting pre-rides of our tracks is an essential part of planning that must be completed every year. This ensures that tracks are safe, allows us to adjust our timing as well as finding new and exciting detours. The weather has been kind to us this year, although we have had some very frosty departures from the Showgrounds the days have been sunny and the going is good for the week of riding ahead.

Four of our five pre-rides have been completed. Eualdrie was first on the agenda, a gentle and open ride that is great to settle the horses on Day 1 of the Muster. The new Quandong ride is a fabulous addition and provides one of the best lunch spots for the week. We were all quite excited to be out on the Bogolong track after many years of wet ground making it unsuitable. It provides us with a day of no roads and traffic and the most amazing views, a favourite amongst the veteran Muster riders. A new and reversed route for the town ride allows us to reach the hospital at a more suitable time as well as adding a new and very scenic morning tea location.
With a little over 5 weeks to go, things do not settle down for the Committee! Merchandise has been ordered and will be packaged, the kitchen crew will finalise the menu and place orders, final pre-rides need to be completed, hay will be delivered and distributed to customers, signs and fencing will be set up at the Showgrounds and the last of the highly successful raffle items will be gathered. And while we all play our parts in this mammoth task we will also be continuing to get our horses fit and ready to do their jobs for the week of riding.
A highlight of the week for both the riders and community members is the fancy dress town ride. We love to see the spectators and shop owners come out to see the spectacular sight of the mass of horses making their way down the Main Street. We will advise readers of time we expect the arrive at the Main Street and our route closer to the Muster.
