In a physical encounter Trundle lead 10 nil early before the Goannas hit back through tries to Mitch Stevens (2) and Stephen Ingram to hold a slim 14 to 10 lead at the break.
With both teams trying to exert their authority in the second half it was the Goannas increasing their lead when Mitch Stevens crossed for his third. An unsuccessful conversion had the Goannas leading 18/10.
With 15 minutes remaining and the Goannas leading 18/14 the tide turned after a dubious call gave Trundle a converted try to take a 20 points to 18 lead.
On the back of a glut of possession it was the Boomers whom now had control of the match and ran out eventual 28 to 18 winners.
The result for the Boomers sees them as the Woodbridge Cup Minor Premiers.
For the Goannas the result had no bearing on where they finished on the ladder holding down fourth position at the end of the competition rounds, which now sees them playing in the Elimination Semi Final against Peakhill this Saturday at Eugowra.
Players Player was tied between Mitch Stevens and Jeremy D'Ombrain whilst 3 points went to Mitch Stevens 2 Phil Inrgam and 1 point to Brendan Hewen.
GOANNAS AND GIRLANNAS THROUGH TO SEMI-FINALS
Both the Grenfell First Grade and League Tag teams have made it through to the Finals of the Woodbridge Cup.
The Ladies League Tag team finished as undefeated Minor Premiers and as a reward, they have this weekend off with their first semi being at Trundle on Sunday the 27th August.
Last Saturday at Lawson Park they had a comfortable 54 nil victory over the Trundle Sunflowers but they know that the semis will be much tougher against the likes of the Cargo, Condo, and Eugowra teams.
First Grade finished fourth and they will be in a sudden death match with the Peak Hill Roosters at Eugowra this Saturday commencing at 3.00pm.
This will be a tight tussle with the Goannas having injuries to key players but they will have plenty of incentive as a home semi awaits them the following week if they can get the chocolates.
Best of luck to both Grenfell teams.
SUCCESSFUL REVERSE DRAW
Last Saturday evening at the Bowling Club we held a very successful fundraiser with Wendy Little taking out the $2000 top prize and Lorraine Harveyson claiming the $500 second prize.
Both Wendy and Lorraine and their respective businesses have been long-term supporters and sponsors of the Goannas and the Girlannas.
We received great support with many people purchasing tickets even though they knew they would not be able to attend whilst those that were in attendance got right behind our raffles and ticket auctions.
Our club would like to thank everyone who helped make the night such a success and in the particular we would like to acknowledge the Grenfell Bowling Cub and their staff, Bistro @ The Bowly, the raffle ticket sellers, and our entertaining compere for the evening Justin Gunn.
