Commitment to the game they love to play has meant some of our local lads have joined with other clubs to create teams in recent rugby seasons.
Panthers U14s have travelled to Temora throughout the 2017 season for training and the hard yards have paid off, as they head to their first Grand Final since their debut in Rugby U6s as Panther Cubs. George Mitton, Gus Kelly, Harrison Starr and Hugh Wilson and their Coach Peter Mitton have had an amazing run to the Finals with their team mates at Temora Tuskers Club. Under the guidance of Head Coach Steve West they have won the last 4 games on the trot – defeating Tumut in the final on Sunday 42 -17 to secure their place in the Grand Final against minor premiers Griffith this coming Sunday, at Temora.
George Mitton in the backliine, is fast with the ball in hand and his cover defence has been phenominal this season, nursing an injury his team mates are hoping to see him strap on the boots this Sunday.
Gus Kelly at Flanker consistently pilfers at the break down and through diligent cleaning out protects the ball in attack, this season focusing on a solid defensive game, punching above his weight in most tackles.
Harrison Starr, the Number 8 has assisted in creating a formidable scrum in recent weeks and is quick to run the ball from the base. Ball in hand he can hit the opposition defence line with impact, assisiting in constructive play.
Hughie Wilson is an elusive winger with safe hands who does not shirk his defence responsibilities. Willing to take on the big guys in both attack and defence.
The journey to the Grand Final has highlighted their ability to work as a team. At the Grenfell Gala Day they played in the Panther’s colours and the Temora boys thought it was great to wear the Black and White. These young men have developed great comradeship and have formed friendship that will last a lifetime. Grenfell Juniors wish them every success in the Grand Final and are very proud of their commitment to play Rugby since a very young age. Well done to Coach Mitton too – you have been with these boys most of their Rugby career and the parents of these boys appreciate your dedication.
