On Sunday, August 6, Grenfell Junior Rugby League took a bus load of kids to participate in the 2017 Western Rams Carnival Day held in Dubbo, playing fields were Caltex Park and Jubilee Oval. Three teams were entered into the carnival U13s, U15s League and U16s League Tag.

The U16s League Tag came out on top winning all 4 games. Scores were: Grenfell v Bloomfield Tigers 2-1, Grenfell v Oberon Tigers 4 -0, Grenfell v Orange Cyms 2-1 and Grenfell v Bathurst Panthers 1-0. This was a tremendous effort considering that the Grenfell team only had 5 players in that age group and remaining girls ranged from 11 – 14yrs. Grenfell is certainly showing that we are a strong League Tag town.
The team consisted of: Chloe Madgwick (c), Sarah Debritt-Frost, Elizabeth Nowlan, Chrystal Hucker, Caitlin Stock, Caphryse Lawler, Georgia Brenner, Holly Gilbert, Faith White, Holli Madgwick, Lily Holmes and 3 juniors Megan Wilson, Taylor Keppie and Linda Hucker. Coach for the Day Isabel Holmes, League Safe Deanne Madgwick and Tee Runner: Marley Loader.
The U15s also played well throughout the day however came up against some hard competition. Scores were: Grenfell v Cowra 0-3, Grenfell v Dubbo City 3-4, Grenfell v Lithgow 0-1 and Grenfell v Cabonne 3-0. Team consisted of – Saxon Southwell, Dylan King, Charlie Ayoub, Ayden Eyles, Joshua Honeysett, Robert Flick, Kyle Mawhinney, Jackson Chapman, Angus Birch, Kevin Silburn, Joshua Hanrahan, Finley Neilsen (Parkes), Caleb Haddin, Bailee Selten, Matthew Gault and Nathan Wilson was out injured. Coach: Trevor Mawhinney, Manager: Matthew Ryan, League Safe: Lachlan Stevens and Adam Hewen, FAO: Matt Reid.
The U13s also played well through the day playing against Mudgee Dragons, Dubbo City Magpies, Orange Cyms and Eglinton Eels. The boys managed to have 2 losses and 2 draws. Team was – Billy Reid, Zac Clarke, Benjamin Hurst-Strange, Harrison Keppie, Alexander Moore, Tyler Byron, Michael Smith, Bailey Edwards, Marc O’Loughlin, Ashton McLaughlin, Lachlan Smith, Hayden Reid, Benji Reid. Staff were: Alec Abbott, Mark Loader and Matt Reid.
The Club would like to congratulate all the players for their efforts and good sportsmanship and a big thankyou to the Grenfell families who travelled to support and watch the kids.
JUNIOR REPORT – Jnr League Tag – July 29 v Cabonne
On a beautiful spring day the Grenfell Jnr League Tag team travelled over to Molong to take on Cabonne.
Just one minute after the kick off to start the game Teleitha O’Byrne went over to score the first try of the match with the conversion unsuccessful. Shortly afterwards Cabonne put their first points on the board, conversion successful. The score now Cabonne 6 Grenfell 4. With excellent footwork skills Charli O’Byrne scored and then converted her own try. About ten minutes into the game Cabonne went in again with an unsuccessful conversion. With both teams evenly matched and showing their tagging skills Charli O’Byrne went in for another try with the conversion a success by Megan Wilson. Half time score Grenfell 16 Cabonne 12.
Cabonne kicked off to start the second half with Teleitha O’Byrne going over the line to score her second with a successful conversion from Alana O’Loughlin. With only minutes left on the clock Cabonne went over again taking the score to 22 all. With only seconds remaining Cabonne scored again and converted successfully taking the final score to Cabonne 28 Grenfell 22. Well done to both teams.
