The Grenfell Junior Rugby League Under 14’s played Forbes Magpies at Lawson Oval on July 1, 2017.
Team players for Grenfell were: Angus Birch, Zachary Clarke, Benjamin Hurst-Strange, Ky O’Byrne, Tyler Byron, Kyle Mawhinney, Bailey Edwards, Michael Smith, Caleb Haddin, Joshua Smith, Dylan King, Jackson Chapman, Riley Edwards, Hamish Birch, Adrian Shaw, Braiden Hucker, Benjamin Reid. Thank you to the under 12’s footballers for playing up for the under 14’s game.
The game started off with Forbes scoring within the first 3 minutes of the game. The conversion was unsuccessful. Grenfell 0.- Forbes 4.
Grenfell came back with vengeance three minutes later with Kyle Mawhwinney scoring Grenfell’s first try. The conversion was successful which was kicked by Kyle.
Grenfell 6 - Forbes 4.
It seemed to be a fast game, action happening all around. Both teams were strong in their defence. Josh Smith scored Grenfell’s second try for the game with a fantastic run to score. Angus Birch was successful with the conversion. Grenfell 12 - Forbes 4.
Forbes gained three more tries with the conversions unsuccessful, which brought the score to Grenfell 12 - Forbes 18.
With less than 3 minutes on the clock Dylan King gained posession of the ball and scored Grenfell another try.
The conversion was successful by Angus Birch which brought Grenfell to an even score at half time. The half time score was now Grenfell 18 - Forbes 18.
The second Half of the game was overpowered by Forbes. The score board was gradually advancing for Forbes. Grenfell had some strong tackles but Forbes found gaps and sprinted towards their try line. Forbes scored 9 tries with 3 of these converted. in the second half. The final score was Grenfell 18 - Forbes 62.
Unfortunately, today the under 14’s didn’t come out with a win but to watch them on the field is extremely entertaining.
Each of these players bring something to the game, whether it be strength in defence, fast on their feet or skills with the ball. Take the positives from this game and apply them to the next.
