Grenfell Under 17s Strikers took to the field against Young’s AutoPro in another rousing home game last Saturday, July 1. From the starting whistle, our stand-in player, Frazer “Strawberry” Ryder, proved to be a dynamic addition, pressuring the goal throughout the entire game. First half goalie, Connor Day, made some amazing saves, aided by the backs of Jessica Pereira, Kate Amery, Ethan Skinner, Shannon Best and Marie Knight, hindering AutoPro’s attack. Aiden Skinner, in the midfield, helped to continually send the ball forward. Half time score was nil all.

Refreshed and eager to make his mark, Connor was quick to score the first goal of the game. Paige Hughes, Andrew Knight and Josh Pargeter worked their midfield magic, with the rest of the team operating as a tight unit. AutoPro managed to score a tricky goal to level. Connor and Ethan Eyles, however, managed to work the ball into the attack, passing it off to Andrew who scored. The opposition was quick to respond, scoring another goal despite Kate Amery’s tireless and skilful goal keeping. As the last minutes ticked away, the tense atmosphere gave way when AutoPro shot for goal again, with ball meeting net. But an opposition hand ball was called and the full-time whistle sounded, leaving the score 2 all.
