Round 4 of the Men’s Winter Tennis Competition resulted in a close finish with the winners just edging out the 2nd placegetters by a game. Charles Harvey and Danny Edwards won with 28 games from Danny Joyce and Mark Liebich winning 27.

Danny Edwards was a fill-in for Pat Hazell and Danny and Charles played consistent tennis to just lose their first set 3/5. This loss was against Danny Joyce and Mark Liebich who went through their five sets undefeated. Charles and Danny Edwards after losing their first set 3/5, found good form to win their other four sets 6/2, levelled the third 4/4, then won 8/0, 7/1- a well played round. Danny Joyce and Mark Liebich won their first set 5/3, then levelled the second 4/4 and went on to win 5/3, 7/1, 6/2 in fine fashion. Grahame Edwards and Leigh Taylor won 22 games, playing consistent tennis to level four of their sets 4/4, 4/4, 4/4, 4/4 and won the last 6/2. Grant Fisher and Rod Freudenstein won 20 games, their sets were 7/1, 5/3, 3/5, 4/4, 1/7. Stuart McKellar and John Walmsley won 13 games, their sets were 4/4, 3/5, 4/4, 2/6, 0/8, 2/6, while, Hugh Moffitt and Arnold Brown battled away without much luck. Round 5 will be played on Tuesday July 4.
Last Sunday the four towns taking part in the Inter Town Competition met at Grenfell to play the next round. The towns were Grenfell, Forbes, West Wyalong and Temora. Temora was successful on the day, Grenfell played very well and a great day’s tennis was enjoyed by all.
