Eight young ladies were welcomed to society when they were presented to Father Allen Crowe former Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Grenfell at the Catholic Debutante Ball Saturday evening May 27.
The Bowling Club auditorium decorated with tulle and gold drops, table decorations of gold and pink, candles and fairy light was sight to behold.
Terry and Deidre Carroll trained the debutantes and their partners for their presentation and debutante waltz.
Music for the evening was provided by “The Young Ones”
Representing the Parish, Terry Carroll welcomed the official guests; Guest of Honour Father Allen Crowe, Father Ross Craven, Parish Priest of the Anglican Parish, Mark Liebich Mayor of Weddin Shire accompanied by his wife Bronwyn, Therese Clancy Principal of St Joseph’s School, Liz Carroll Chairperson of St Joseph’s Parish Council accompanied by her husband Glenn.
Flower girl, Alyssa Heathcote preceded the Matron of Honour Danielle Schneider through the beautifully decorated archway and down the red carpet.
Liz Carroll, commentator for this important night introduced each debutante and partner as they entered the auditorium where over 200 family and friends were in attendance.
All the debutantes looked outstanding and were complimented by their partners in black suits, white shirts, pink ties, kerchiefs and white buttonholes.
The debutantes and partners presented in order of appearance were; Paige Hughes and Andrew Knight, Isabelle Holz and Aaron Mawhinney, Zoe Gavin and Hamish Starr, Isabelle Hunter and Ethan Eyles, Bianca Cotter and Frazer Ryder, Tarlia Cotter and Jarrad Wilson, Abbey Joyce and Selwyn White and Jessica Pereira and Aiden Skinner.
The debutantes were asked to do a sprightly walk around to show off their gowns before Mayor Mark Liebich welcomed the guests and Father Allen Crowe officially opened the ball. He complimented the debutantes and partners on the way in which they were trained and carried it out to perfection.
The debutantes and partners then danced the Valetta Waltz.
Following their formal waltz, the debutantes and partners took their places for an informal dance choreographed by them and danced to “Blame it on the Boogie”
The Flower girls and Matron of Honour wheeled the debutante cake made and beautifully decorated by Sharyn Bradtke into the auditorium where Paige Hughes and Andrew Knight had the honour of cutting it on behalf of all debutantes and partners.
Father Allen presented each Debutante with a certificate in recognition of this special occasion.
A special thank you was made to Courtney Hunter and Kathy Sheehan who were responsible for the major part of the beautiful decorations.
Sincere thanks were extended to the Bowling Club Catering staff as well as the Manager Bianca Hughes and staff of the Grenfell Bowling Club for their expertise and assistance for the evening.
The debutantes presented Danielle Schneider, Liz Carroll, Judy McInnes and Terry and Deidre Carroll with an appreciation gift.
To conclude the formal part of the evening debutantes and their partners, followed by the flower girl, Matron of Honour and the official party left the auditorium to sprightly music, joined their family and friends and enjoyed the music and dancing.
DRESS DESCRIPTIONS
Flower girl: Alyssa Heathcote, daughter of Jaclyn Hughes and Tony Heathcote.
Alyssa attends St Joseph's primary school and is currently in year 3. Alyssa is wearing a simple satin bodice, high wasted taffeta skirt and double tulle overlay dress and is completed with a gold sash and white ballet shoes.
Matron of Honour – Danielle Schneider
Danielle is the younger daughter of Graham and Ros Schneider – a well-known name in the farming community of Grenfell. Danielle grew up on her parent’s farm – Summer Hill – and completed both her Primary & Secondary Education at Grenfell Public School and The Henry Lawson High School.
Danielle was appointed as a teacher at St Joseph’s School in 2012 and is currently the Kindergarten/Year 1 teacher. Danielle wore a Gown by Moss & Spy - a glamorous slightly flared gown. It features a scoop neckline and falls full length. The top 3/4 of the gown is met by a gently gathered angular hem. The flared hem in the plain tulle has extra layers of tulle added for dramatic effect. The background tulle base is midnight in tone with charcoal, silver and clear hand beaded sequins in a retro angular design.
Paige Hughes partner Andrew Knight
Paige, daughter of Howard and Lisa Hughes was partnered by Andrew Knight, son of Garry and Joalee Knight. Paige wore an A-line princess style sleeveless dress with a high neckline. It features a lace overlay bodice accentuated by an empire waist. The skirt, of fine tulle overlay, falls softly from a ribbon waistline. Paige is in year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Paige ambitions are to finish school, travel the world and get a degree at university. Andrew attends The Henry Lawson High School. Andrew when he finishes school would like to co-farm with his father.
Isabelle Holz partner Aaron Mawhinney
Isabelle, daughter of Wayne and Kath Holz was partnered by Aaron Mawhinney, son of Trevor and Rita Mawhinney. Isabelle wore a dress from Nicolina. The style has a high neck line with cutaway sleeve and a keyhole back. It has a small satin band around the waist and the skirt falls in a soft gather of tulle. Isabelle is in Year 11 at Hennessy Catholic College. Isabelle would like to travel when she finishes school before she starts a career in the armed forces. Aaron is also in Year 11 attending Red Bend Catholic College; Aaron would like to go to University studying PDHPE or Primary teaching.
Zoe Gavin partner Hamish Starr
Zoe, daughter of Paul and Sandra Gavin was partnered by Hamish Starr son of Megan and Martin Starr. Zoe wore a Sorella Vita gown with a pleated, chiffon illusion sweetheart neckline and chiffon skirt with a cut-out back, highlighted with a coordinating satin belt. Zoe is currently in Year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Zoe’s ambition is to pursue a career in the sporting field. Hamish would like a career in sports management.
Isabelle Hunter partner Ethan Eyles
Isabelle, daughter of Graeme and Alecia Hunter was partnered by Ethan Eyles son of Phillip and Janine Eyles. Isabelle’s dress has a deep v-neckline at the front and back with an intricately beaded bodice, which drops at the waist-line into a satin skirt with a full tulle overlay. Isabelle is in year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Isabelle’s ambitions are to finish high school and go on to further study in the fields of art and history. Ethan is in Year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School and hopes to continue his education at university studying Business Management.
Bianca Cotter partner Frazer Ryder
Bianca, daughter of Rodney and Sonja Cotter was partnered by Frazer Ryder son of Wendy and Ian Ryder. Bianca wore soft chiffon with cataway sleeve at the front and the back with a high neckline, a satin band around the waist, skirt falls in to form soft folds from the waistline. Bianca is in Year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Bianca ambitions are to complete her HSC and obtain her certificate in business services. Bianca enjoys working weekends at the Star Diner. Frazer is in Year 11 attending The Henry Lawson High School and would like to pursue a career in physiotherapy.
Tarlia cotter partner Jarrad Wilson
Tarlia, daughter of Rodney and Sonja Cotter was partnered by Jarrad Wilson son of Deb Wilson. Tarlia wore a satin bodice with high neckline that is cut away at the front and wide straps at the back. A diamanté feature around the waist the skirt is a full skirt with layers of tulle. Tarlia is in Year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Tarlia’s ambitions are to complete school and go to university. Tarlia enjoys playing league tag for the Grenfell Girlannas and loves assisting in coaching the junior league tag girls. Jarrad’s ambition is to finish school and go to university studying Sport Science and Nutrition.
Abbey Joyce partner Selwyn White
Abbey, the youngest daughter of Danny and Monica Joyce was partnered by Selwyn son of Rex White and Cathy Birch. Abbey’s dress features a lace bodice with a high illusion net neckline at the front and a V shaped back. The skirt falls from the waist in soft folds of tulle. Abbey is currently in year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Abbey is working towards completing a business traineeship as a part of her final studies. In her spare time she enjoys playing league tag, tennis and netball. Abbey also likes helping dad with stock work. Her ambitions include attending university after high school, and travelling. Selwyn is in year 12 at The Henry Lawson High School. Selwyn’s ambitions include completing the HSC, and go to university to study Civil Engineering.
Jessica Pereira partner Aiden Skinner
Jessica, daughter of Nicole Widdows and Stephen Pereira was partnered by Aiden Skinner son of Jackie and Thurston Skinner. Jessica wore a gown with a sweetheart neckline layered with a Guipure lace fitted bodice that features buttons down the back. The tulle skirt falls softly to the ground and the waist is finished with a Grosgrain sash. Jessica is in year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School and ambitions include attending university and travelling around Australian and the world. Aiden also in year 11 at The Henry Lawson High School. Aiden’s ambitions include completing HSC and travelling over seas.
