ENGAGEMENT: Congratulations to Cherie, daughter of Robbie and Lisa Bernard of Grenfell and John, youngest Son of Sheryl and Scott Grigg of Leeton; who announced their engagement recently. A wonderful time was had by all at a party held at the Grenfell Country Club on  April 15 to celebrate.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Teddy Simpson enjoyed a birthday dinner with family at Fettlers Restaurant on May 17. Helping Teddy celebrate were her children Ric Simpson and wife Jane from Yackandandah, Cathie and husband Paul Logan and David Simpson and wife Joanne who live in Grenfell.

RECOGNISED: Detective Chief Inspector Mick Stoltenberg was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the communities of the Far West on May 19 when he was awarded a NSW Government Community Service Award.

Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries MP detailed Mick's service as the Crime Manager of Barrier LAC and more recently the Western Zone Coordinator of the SCC Child Abuse Squad, highlighting his work in assisting disadvantaged communities and children.

Mick received his award from the Premier of NSW The Hon. Gladys Berejiklian during the Nationals Convention at Broken Hill. Mick who will be remembered as a police officer in Grenfell some years ago enjoyed a fishing trip away with another former Grenfell police officer Don Robinson and friends.

VISITING GRENFELL: Peter and Julie Watson from Yanderra in the Southern Highlands were in Grenfell recently to visit to good friend, Bernadette Dykhoff. Julie is the daughter of former Grenfell residents the late Bill and Doreen Nolan who lived at “Glenburnie” before moving to the Southern Highlands in 1994. Bill a member of the Grenfell Lions Club served as President in 1991. Doreen will be remembered as a wonderful cook, especially her apple pies. Peter, Julie, Bernadette, Lleiton Purdie and Terry Hancock enjoyed a night out to dinner at Fettlers.

VISITING FROM WA: Faye and Joe Sivwright from Dianella, Perth WA had a stop-over in Grenfell last week to visit Faye’s uncle Bill and Margaret Cuddihy. They enjoyed a night out to dinner at the Railway Hotel. The Sivwrights who are on a caravan holiday around Australia stayed at the Grenfell Caravan Park where they complimented the caretakers and the surrounds.

SEARCHING FAMILY HISTORY: Shelley Oldfield from Lisarow on the Central Coast and Leanne Hall (nee Hunter) from Busselton WA are in Grenfell researching their family tree.

They are descendants of Rebecca and Henry Hunter, whose son Joseph and his wife Mary moved to WA. Whilst in Grenfell they caught up with Mary, Ross and Tracey Hunter and their family who are all descendants of Rebecca and Henry.

SURPRISE VISIT: Lawrence Graystone - aka LG, from Cockatoo in Victoria, riding his ‘Il Bombo’ 850 Le Mans 111 Moto Guzzi motor cycle surprised the Butcher family on Monday when he knocked on their door. Peter and LG are friends who served in the Army in VIC some years ago. 

FESTIVAL TIME: As the 60th anniversary of the Henry Lawson Festival and Henry’s 150th birthday draws closer Festival Queen Entrants are busy with fundraisers.

Last weekend MPS entrant Rachel Gillard held a successful ‘Burlesque’ evening at the Bowling Club, THLHS entrant Vanessa Knight and her committee are busy selling tickets for a commemorative quilt.

On June 3,  Grenfell Public School entrant Francesca Nolan will host a Seafood Night at the Country Club, tickets $50 p/p bookings close May 29,  also Bowling Club entrant, Emily Cartwright will have a family bowls day starting at 2pm - $10 adults, $5 kids under 10, and Lions Club entrant Grace Kelly will host a night with a difference at the Railway Hotel, bookings by May 29 with Deidre Carroll 6343 1574 or Grace Kelly 6347 1301 $30p/p.
