A rather belated reminder that Poetry by Firelight, which for many years has been the first event of the Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival of Arts, will, again, be taking place at the Dramatic Society’s Rose Street Rooms on Tuesday June 6 commencing at 7.30pm.

This is a comparatively laid-back, informal beginning to the Festival that has been well attended by members of the community in previous years.
It is an evening to remind us all that first and foremost, Henry Lawson is one of the most recognised of Australian Poets, and also to remind us all of what an underestimated treasury of verse we Australians have inherited and continue to produce.
Everyone in the community is invited and welcome to attend, whether to read (or recite) a poem, or just to listen, and there are only two ‘rules’:
(1) Is to present a poem by an Australian writer (in the past many Grenfell poets have read their own works) and
(2) Is that it not be too long.
The Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival Poetry by Firelight is a wonderful event that showcases the array of talented poetry writers and reciters throughout the Weddin Shire.
The function will be held in the kitchen of the Grenfell Dramatic Society’s Rose Street Rooms, there will be a fire and afterwards a supper of tea/coffee and Judy Mitton’s excellent (and very popular) scones.

It is probably a good idea to bring a knee-rug (open fires, although they look good, are probably not the best way to heat a big room.)
So mark it off on your calendar now, 7.30pm on Tuesday June 6 at the Dramatic Society’s Rose Street Rooms.
There is a small charge of a gold coin donation upon entry and supper, of course, is free.
Hope to see you all there!
