"This project will have a long-term benefit for the Grenfell area, which is why the NSW Government is delighted to contribute $8.81 million to the project," Katrina said.
Initial technical investigations are being undertaken by the consulting company, Mott Macdonald, on behalf of the Weddin Shire Council.
These investigations will determine the capacity and process requirements of an updated treatment plant and assess what technology and configurations can best service the local community in the coming decades.
"With a deteriorating treatment facility, there is a risk that the plant may fail. We want to minimise this risk in order to protect the staff, the environment and the wider community that relies on this plant," Katrina said.
Construction on the new plant is expected to commence in late 2019, following the completion of the technical investigations. This project has been largely funded by the NSW Government under the Restart NSW Water Security for Regions program, which has invested $205 million into 65 infrastructure projects including augmenting dams, pipeline and bore works and water efficiency mechanisms.
