A solid but far from polished performance saw the Goannas comfortable 64-14 winners over the Canowindra Tigers last Sunday, April 23, at Lawson Oval. The Goannas started better than they have in previous weeks and raced to an 18-nil lead after fifteen minutes with converted tries to Steve Taylor, Shannon Lee and Stevie Ingram. Grenfell then began to turn over cheap possession through spilled ball and silly penalties allowing Canowindra back into the game.

The Tigers picked up three tries in this period whilst Grenfell’s Amenaysia Aditagane returning from injury scored with his first touch of the ball for Phil Ingram to convert and the Goannas to go into the break leading 24-14. Ball security and sticking to the game plan was the message at half time, and to the Goannas credit, it’s exactly what they did. With the forwards continually punching through the middle, and a cleaver kicking game from Ricky Whitton, the Goannas completely dominated the second stanza, piling on 40 unanswered points.
Tries came from doubles to Amenaysia Aditagane, Sam Ingram and Phil Ingram with Brendan Hewen also crossing the chalk, Phil Ingram also converted six goals. Grenfell’s best on the day were Josh Bateman, Stevie Ingram, Jeremy D’Ombrain and Alec Abbott. Players Player was awarded to Josh Bateman.
This Sunday at Lawson Park the Grenfell Goannas and Girlannas will clash with their Condobolin counterparts the Rams and Ramettes. League Tag will commence at 12.40pm with First Grade set to kick off at 2.00pm.
The Girlannas have been in good recent form highlighted by their big 48 nil win over Canowindra last Sunday but they do come up against a Ramette’s outfit who are also yet to taste defeat this season.
Condo First Grade Suffered a shock home loss against Peak Hill last week and they will be looking to atone for that defeat this Sunday.
The 2016 premiers have lost some players from last year and have a long road trip but they are still a dangerous team led by big front rower Adam Richards.
