PAPAL BLESSING: Jack Grant, the oldest Acolyte in the Canberra-Goulburn Diocese was the recipient of a Papal Blessing on Sunday April 23. Jack turned 97 on March 31. In recognition of Jack’s dedicated years of service to St Joseph’s Parish, the Parish Council applied to the Apostolic Nuncio to request a Papal Blessing from Pope Francis. During Mass, Father Tom Thornton made the presentation and thanked Jack for his outstanding contribution to the parish over many years. President of the Pastoral Parish Council, Liz Carroll congratulated Jack on his Papal Blessing and thanked those who assisted in any way in procuring same. Long time friend Terry Carroll was called upon to say a few words on behalf of the parish. Jack and Meg were delighted to have their daughter Felicity Suckling (Wagga), their son James (SA), Son in law Giles McDonald (Canberra) and Granddaughter Emily and her daughter Willow from QLD in attendance. Apologies were received from Jack and Meg’s daughters Patricia (New Zealand) Carmel (Wagga), their son Fr Paul (USA) and son John and his wife Sharon who were on holidays in Queensland. Other family members apologised, but will be in Grenfell this week to congratulate Jack. The Grants moved from “Moyne Farm” at Warraderry to Grenfell in 1994.

HOLIDAY AT PORT: Bill and Marie Rudd returned home last Friday after spending near two weeks holidaying at Port Macquarie with their daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Philip Brown. While at Port they had a chance to catch up with great grandchildren, Charlotte and Aria Brown, and William Brown of Dubbo. Charlotte and Aria are the daughters of Jason and Julz Brown of Port Macquarie, while William is the son of Andrew and Amanda Brown of Dubbo. There were several birthdays celebrated while at Port including Sue and Marie’s and Charlotte’s 2nd birthday. Bill and Marie also caught up with former Grenfell residents, Chris Fletcher and Max and Pat Waters. Prior to the trip to Port Macquarie, Sue and Philip travelled down to Grenfell on Thursday, April 6 and then on Saturday morning, April 8 drove over to Murrumbateman to attend a Clarke/Rudd Reunion commemorating 100 year anniversary of the passing of Bill’s uncle Charles Thomas Clarke who was killed in World War 1 in 1917. He died with his fellow diggers on the Western Front, France, March 31, 1917. The commemorative service was held at All Saints Anglican Church, Murrumbateman at which over 80 descendants of Charles and Emily Clarke (Bill’s grandparents) attended. Following the church service, a wreath laying ceremony took place at Charles Thomas Clarke’s Memorial Plaque and Tree.
