PAPAL BLESSING: Jack Grant, the oldest Acolyte in the Canberra-Goulburn Diocese was the recipient of a Papal Blessing on Sunday April 23. Jack turned 97 on March 31. In recognition of Jack’s dedicated years of service to St Joseph’s Parish, the Parish Council applied to the Apostolic Nuncio to request a Papal Blessing from Pope Francis. During Mass, Father Tom Thornton made the presentation and thanked Jack for his outstanding contribution to the parish over many years. President of the Pastoral Parish Council, Liz Carroll congratulated Jack on his Papal Blessing and thanked those who assisted in any way in procuring same. Long time friend Terry Carroll was called upon to say a few words on behalf of the parish. Jack and Meg were delighted to have their daughter Felicity Suckling (Wagga), their son James (SA), Son in law Giles McDonald (Canberra) and Granddaughter Emily and her daughter Willow from QLD in attendance. Apologies were received from Jack and Meg’s daughters Patricia (New Zealand) Carmel (Wagga), their son Fr Paul (USA) and son John and his wife Sharon who were on holidays in Queensland. Other family members apologised, but will be in Grenfell this week to congratulate Jack. The Grants moved from “Moyne Farm” at Warraderry to Grenfell in 1994.
