EXPERIENCE, coupled with consistency when the going gets tough, was the key to Steve Galvin winning his eighth Major Singles Championship at the weekend. In a very entertaining match, Steve defeated Andrew Armstrong for the prestigious crown. Andrew started out in good form, winning 11 of the first 16 ends – six of them in a row – which gave him a handy lead of 17-7. This was the stage that Steve’s big match experience came into play and he went on to score 24 shots to Andrew’s 4 over the next 16 ends, to take out the match 31-21. Congratulations Steve and commiserations to you, Andrew, on a fine performance.

Lachlan Valley Championships: The draw has been completed and is on the notice board. The Triples will be played at Grenfell on Saturday at 1pm. The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday morning, commencing 9am, while the finals will be held on Sunday afternoon.
Social bowls: Once again this week, the autumn weather has been perfect for bowls, enticing a total of 44 bowlers to take to the green. Wednesday’s chook winners were Quentin Murray, Hans Christoph and Col Meyers, while Gary Pipe won the free game. On Friday, the chooks went to Col Meyers (again!), Nev Coleman and Rob Chambers and the free game to Jim Sparkes. There were two chooks on Sunday and they went to Lindsay Ballard and Keith Brus, while Rob Chambers was the free game winner.
Bribbaree win: Three of our bowlers had a profitable day of bowls at the weekend. Kerry Aston, Colin Meyers and Robbie Coleman ventured out to Bribbaree to take part in a tournament, played well and won the day, taking out the major prize money of $450. Well done!
Jackpot: Guess what? The jackpot has gone off at last. Eight bowlers were in teams that met this week’s criteria of going down by one shot on end 8, on an even rink. Rhys Hughes, Neville Coleman, Rob Chambers, John Dumbrell, Clive Anderson, Barry Jones, Brian Johnson and Keith Brus are the lucky bowlers who shared in the jackpot of $716 and now find themselves $89 richer. Not a bad little dividend for an outlay of $1!
