For this visit the Ashcrofts decided that the common thread was the connection to the Lobbs, being neighbours and family which included the Eastaways, Knights, Davis', Thompsons and Ashcrofts. The group enjoyed an Easter Sunday luncheon at the Albion Hotel, before visiting Bimbi.
Jane said, “The next time I'm back in Australia I'll hopefully catch up with friends as well.” Jane and Simon are living in England, just outside of London near Henley on Thames.
Singapore Holiday: Jill Hodgson travelled to Singapore recently and caught up with her friend of fifty five years, Dr Evelyn Cheng.
Jill has spent two weeks in Singapore catching up with extended family and friends as well as doing some sight-seeing.
Happy Birthday: Brendan McAlister, who now works in Cooma, was home to celebrate his 48th birthday with family and friends at the Grenfell Picnic Races.
With some small children around, they spent some time at the entertainment area with the Lions jumping castle and merry go round.
Nasho’s Anzac
Commemoration Service: On Sunday morning April 9, the National Servicemen’s Association South West Slopes Sub-branch held an Anzac Commemoration Service at the Grenfell Memorial Cenotaph.
Members from Young, Cowra, Boorowa and Grenfell were in attendance for the service with President of the Grenfell RSL Sub Branch, Glen Ivins leading the service and local Grenfell Town and District Band member Paul Best playing the Last Post.
Visiting Family: Rod and Maryanne Griffiths from the Central Coast visited Grenfell last weekend to catch up with Rod’s father Tex and his wife Shirley, his grandmother Mona Wood and Uncle Barry Griffiths.
Intending to stay only one night, they were so taken with what Grenfell had to offer stayed on for four or five nights.
They enjoyed the ambience, the people, the shopping and everything about the place. All being well, they hope to return next week with their son.
Easter Outing: Jan and Ron McLelland enjoyed a night out to dinner with their daughter in law Susan and grandchildren Saskia, Genevieve and Skye on Thursday before Easter. The children’s dad Robert was busy on the tractor and missed out on dinner and Skye just wasn’t in the mood for a photo.
Visiting from Melbourne: Jasper and Cooper Brown travelled from Melbourne with their mother Samantha Carroll on the XPT prior to Easter.
The family love coming home and always enjoy helping grandma and poppy deliver Meals on Wheels.
On Thursday they travelled to Lithgow to catch the train to Sydney to spend Easter with Samantha’s sister Kellie and her daughter Sibelle.
Martin Brown met with the family and they enjoyed three days sight-seeing, a harbour cruise and a walk across the Harbour Bridge.
ANZAC DAY: ANZAC Day is the solemn day of remembrance of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915. It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who have fought and died for their country.
It is celebrated on 25 April each year, regardless of on which day it falls. The day is a public holiday; however no replacement holiday is given if Anzac Day falls on a weekend (except in Western Australia).
It was on 25 April 1915 that the armies of Australia and New Zealand entered into their premier battle of the First World War, at Gallipoli, Turkey.
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
