On Wednesday, the father-and-son duo of Graeme and James Hunter took out the Minor/Majors by defeating Gavin Johnson and Andrew Armstrong. Graeme and James got away to a great start and seemed invincible with a lead of 16-2 after 11 ends. However, Gav and Andrew seemed to find renewed resolve after that and won the next four ends in a row, bringing the score to a more respectable 16-10. But the Hunters managed to settle down again and won three of the remaining four ends to run out winners 23-11. After five ends the score in the Mixed Pairs final on Saturday between Pat and Matty Reid and Pat and Keith Brus was very close at 5-4 in favour of Pat and Keith, when the Reids scored a demoralising 6 shots on the sixth. Pat and Keith found it difficult to get back into the game after that and the Reids took out the match 22-13.
Presentation night: All men and women bowlers, partners and friends are cordially invited to our 2016 Presentation Night, which will be held at the club next Saturday night, December 10, in partnership with the Women’s Bowling Club. The presentation dinner is scheduled for 6.30pm and will be preceded by a friendly game of mixed bowls, with half-leg hams as prizes, to start at 4.30pm. Cost of the buffet dinner is $15, which will include complimentary wine and port to celebrate the evening.
Veterans Day: The club’s annual Veterans Day last Wednesday was a great afternoon of bowls. Handicap triples and pairs games were played and featured some close matches. Winners on the day were the triples team of Ray Walter, Quinton Murray and Max Barr, who just squeaked in on a countback from Steve Galvin and Hans Christoph. During the afternoon president Andrew Armstrong, on behalf of the Royal NSW Bowling Association, presented Veteran and Super-Veteran badges to George Dumbrell, Lindsay Ballard and Barry Butler.
Social Bowls: The first of our Christmas hams were drawn on Friday and the lucky winners were Rob Chambers, George Dumbrell and Jim Sparkes, who all went home with a tasty half-leg. Remember, hams will continue as prizes each Wednesday and Friday up until Friday, December 23 with half-legs on Fridays and picnic or shoulder hams on Wednesdays. The free game winner on Friday was Nev Coleman. Despite the heat and humidity, there was a reasonable roll-up of hardy bowlers on Sunday. Chook winners were Keith Brus and Barry Butler with Roger Baker winning the free game.
Jackpot: To win the jackpot this week you needed a score of an unlikely +9 on end 14 on an even rink. Next week it will be worth $69.
