The day started off with an official welcome at the visitor information centre including a red carpet greeting. During the welcome George Raftopoulos, representing the Greek community, presented Grenfell RSL President Maurice Simpson with an Anzacs of Greece memorial plaque from the Greek consulate that was gratefully received by Mr Simpson.
Afterwards the large group were treated to a tour of Main Street for a photo shoot of families in front of their former business houses. These images are available below. Following the photo shoot the Greek guests were invited to a luncheon in the incredible function room at Jan Parlett’s Exchange Hotel.
The highlight event for the weekend was the dinner/dance at the Showground Pavilion where Sydney Greek band ‘Paradise’ entertained the huge audience.
The pavilion was decorated in a terrific Greek theme and the meal and hors d'oeuvre’s comprised of authentic Greek cuisine and beverages. During the evening George Raftopoulos presented Weddin Shire Mayor, Mark Liebich, with one of his acclaimed artworks as a token of appreciation for welcoming home the Greek community in such a spectacular fashion. Well done to all involved.
