Reunion convenor Jim Griffiths, said registrations from all parts of NSW, and some from interstate had been received, with up to 150 former members expected.
“The numbers are continuing to climb after a slow start, and it’s not too late to register for those wishing to attend.
We will need to close the books for registrations towards the end of the month, and anyone considering attending should register immediately.
“Our guest speaker, world and Australian agriculturalist Graham Blight, has confirmed his attendance despite a very busy schedule, and former district supervisor from Forbes, George Bennett, OAM, is also among those registered to attend,” he added.
The Saturday mid-day luncheon will see men and women from all walks of life, who learnt their early skills in the Junior Farmers/ Rural Youth organisation representing a cross-section of achievements, will gather together at Grenfell’s historic showground Pavilion, the Simpson Pavilion”.
Organisers believe the format will assist in drawing former members from a wide area to enjoy the home of many iconic Australians including poet Henry Lawson, bushranger Ben Hall, Australian test cricket legend Stan McCabe, and tennis great Jan Lehane, intermingled with 150 years of gold rush based history along with today’s impressive modern farming and livestock enterprises.
Towns like Grenfell, surrounding villages and other localities across central and regional NSW supported the formation of the clubs which operated from 1928 under the Junior Farmer banner until a name change to Rural Youth was adopted from July 1, 1966.
