What more could you want from a Group 10 league tag elimination semi-final?
After finishing fourth and fifth respectively following the regular season, the green and golds take on the two blues in Saturday’s sudden death playoff in Oberon to determine which of the two sides will progress to the minor semi-final, and which will say goodbye to 2016.
On 2016 results, the game’s harder to pick than a broken nose too.
The two sides shared the spoils during the regular season, with CYMS emerging triumphant in an 18-10 round seven win before Hawks took the chocolates in round 16, winning 16-14 in a nail-biter.
The latter was Hawks’ first and only victory over CYMS in league tag.
Neither side boasts much momentum either, CYMS are coming into the clash after three straight losses while Hawks have suffered defeats in their last two games.
“We’re going in confident,” CYMS stalwart Mandy Moore said.
“We have lost a few in a row going into this one but our structure has been much better in the last couple of games and we were a bit unlucky not to get a win up last weekend against Bathurst St Pat’s.
“Hawkies are a good side and they have some dangerous players, I think Em McDonald is probably their biggest danger, in particular her short kicking game which is very good. They have some great athletes in their side though, so if they stand up and play well it will be tough.
“Actually, I think no matter what it will be a tough, physical game and I think it’ll be tight. Both our games so far this season have been tight.”
Moore said she’s certain her side has the potential to go all the way if they can get a win up on Saturday.
“I think we can. I can’t really speak for Hawks but they’re a good side too,” she said.
“That’s the beauty of the competition this season, it’s so close. We had some really tight results with the top three sides, we got beaten by one point by Bathurst Panthers and drew with Blayney, before last week only just being beaten by Pat’s.
“I really think any side could take it out, it just depends on who shows up on any given day.”
The blockbuster kicks off at 10am.
