OUR GIRL IN THE NT: Former Grenfell resident Kim (Kenni Maree) Fanning has been promoted to the Regional Coordinator for East Arnhem and has relocated to the Head Office in Nhulubuy (Gove). Her position has her flying to all communities in East Arnhem to support, quality assurance and roll out new programs. Kim said “I still love the culture and have been invited to attend many outings with the aboriginal folks.” Kim also said the fishing is ridiculous up there.

Kim spoke with her father Len Fanning on Wednesday evening August 17 when he had just finished dining with the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull in Canberra.
As a published earlier in the Grenfell Record, Len was one of the 161 Field Battery – the artillery that was called into the battle to stop the advance of the 2599 Vietnamese force in the rubber plantation in Long Tan on August 18, 50 years ago.
Len was one of many Vietnam Veterans attending the commemorations in Canberra on August 18. His brother Greg and grandson Daniel Fanning and his partner Melissa Martens travelled down from Grenfell to be with Len on this day, as did his sister Vicki Penbathy who made the trip from Benalla to attend the Dawn Service.
Len’s grandchildren Candice Freemen, Franklyn Graham, Terry Davis, Julie Newcombe and great grandchildren Kailey and Troy Newcombe were also honoured to be part of this fantastic day and Len was proud of his family support.
THANK YOU: The following popped up on the Caravan Site on FaceBook:
Hi Campers – I don’t want to put people off camping but just make you aware of the real danger of being on the road. Just last week my parents Tony and Joan Pane were just ten minutes out of Grenfell NSW on the Henry Lawson Way heading to Young when a truck filled with 90 tonne of Grain hit them from behind. Somehow they have been blessed to walk away from this accident with very minor injuries but have vowed to get another caravan and Prado and get back out there. Thank you to the NSW SES, Police and Fire who helped then out of this wreck, Take Care Out There People – feeling blessed in Grenfell. Note: A ‘Thank you’ from Tony and Jane was also published in Wednesday’s Grenfell Record.
GRENFELL SHOW: With the theme for the sesquicentenary being “Come Home to Grenfell”, why not come home or invite your families to come home for the Annual Grenfell Show.
This year marks the 140th Show – a great achievement for a small community. See the Grenfell Show Feature on pages 6 & 7 in today’s Record. On Friday evening one lucky winner will set off the old fashioned ignition plunger to light the fireworks display at 8pm.
There will also be an action packed farmer’s challenge plus rides and displays.
Saturday September 3 will be a jam packed schedule with arts and crafts, produce, livestock and naturally rides for the young and young at heart.
