Last Sunday the Stingers took on Parkes Chooks at home. Would we win the game and take out the minor premiership, would Ross aim high but shoot low, and would Ben’s recent run in with a sheep be career ending? All this and much more coming up.

We started the game with only one sub and needed to win this game to stay on top and take out the minor premiership. The Chooks started as the better side, in the first 5 minutes Grenfell were looking nervous. Andy, our goalie, produced a great one handed save, Brad, Murray and Mitch ‘the flash’ Wheatley were staying composed at the back, shutting down the opposition and starting to feed good balls to the midfield.
Ben, Ross and Garry ‘twinkle toes’ Halloran were starting to control the centre with Jarrod and Deejae playing out wide. We were controlling the ball better and it didn't take long before we were feeding our strikers Matthew and Michael ‘pedro’ Walker. Martin was our sub and he was frothing at the mouth to get on. With some good lead up work Michael scored to put us up one nil. Grenfell were applying the pressure and we were in again with Ben appearing on the score sheet. From the Chooks kick off we put the pressure straight back on and we scored again with a goal to Matthew. Were the Chooks folding quicker than a Chinese laundromat?
Grenfell headed into half time with a 3 nil lead and captain-coach Ben hadn’t been this excited since he got the first complete season of Gilmore Girls on DVD. Second half started strong for the Stingers, the Chooks were pushing hard on the counter attack but Mitch, Murray and Brad were just too powerful. With 5 minutes to go we finally got another goal with Michael hitting a very powerful shot beating the keeper near his post. We had won 4 nil and taken out the minor premiership. Not a bad effort for a side playing short on numbers most weeks.
Our supporters were going nuts on the side line. Finishing on top means we have the first week off, then we host the winner of West Wyalong v Chooks for a spot in the grand final. Special thanks must go to our wonderful sponsors the Royal Hotel and Lyle Walkers Butchers for their great support all year.
