I was a little amused to see a fellow Councillor had broken courteous protocol and omitted to include full details of a ‘Notion of Motion’ re “ that Council address the current reverse parking problems we have in the Main Street precinct”. It is disappointing that readers have been misled and not given all the facts. Is this a lime lighting effort to stir up past reactions in a hope they may be directed at named Councillors hoping to discredit them pre the forth coming elections?

If this is mischief making surely our time, efforts and energy could be focused in a more positive way instead of negative references. Creating bonfires, lit from the past seems an unhealthy practice. Not only is it a waste of time but it does not create harmony, unity or respectful communication channels in a community, Council or any forum. Let’s move forward and get on with the business of addressing issues. Personally I’m not in favour of nose in parking but as a current sitting Councillor I have to represent, present and be a voice for rate payers who have come to me with concerns and remain open minded, so I can make informed decisions that consider all points of view.
The Notice of Motion is what is put forward to open discussion, in this instance to address ongoing damage and problems caused by parking in Main street so that thought can be given to Main Street upgrade plans, this being one of the priorities in our strategic plan. As to the reference to the issue of damaged verandah posts can easily be addressed by steel and paint. I guess the inference is to install metal painted bollards? Yes the problem can be addressed but there is always a cost involved, heritage listing, aesthetic appeal, tourism goals, ongoing maintenance etc and much to be considered. Instead of stirring up reactionary responses we can be asking for solutions, input and support to address issues that are ongoing and unresolved. Interestingly my name is not attached to this Notice of Motion to be put forward at the July 21 Council meeting. However, as with many Council issues I’ve been happy to support fellow Councillors behind the scenes to gather information and work as a team player to bring as much to the table as we can. More on this topic after it has been dealt with through the due process.
